Hi, nice set up. My 96 MK8 LSC is getting rim/tire/brake upgrades I was thinking of going to 18", I like your stance with the low profile 17" Do you feel as though the staggered tire set up improved the handling charactereristics? Thanks,Mark

Thanks for your comments.
The double stagger I had was 17x8 with 255/40ZR17 front and 18x9 with 275/40ZR18 rears. To answer your question, yes the double stagger does make the car track very well. I did however have some traction issues with the 18s in the rear once I swapped in the DOHC engine. The car shifts 1-2 violently, and the 18s would break loose very easily, especially in wet conditions. My J-mod is maxed out and my trac Lok clutch is pretty stout so it's not a surprise but it was a bit unnerving.
I have since upgraded to 20x10 with 285/35ZR20 in the rear. We sometimes run the 17s in front and sometimes the 18s in front with the 20s in the back.
The big 285/35ZR20s on the cast Shelby wheels really calmed the car down. It does not spin quite so easily and the 1-2 shift is no longer violent, more like very firm.
I Especially like the handling with the matching Continental extremes on the 17" fronts and the 20" Continental extremes in back. It drives like it is on rails.
I suspect the wheel and tire upgrades did most of the improving, but also the lowering and new control arms with the Mustang Cobra Hubs/Knuckles are also huge improvements. I do hope to one day get dedicated lowering springs and performance shocks to make up performance coilovers in front, and use airbags and performance shocks in back. I bought TRQ front coilovers and TRQ rear coils and cut them down myself to lower the car.
The brake upgrades are awesome improvements, it stops like a much smaller car. See my Fall 2020 showcase post for the current status.
