I have the 02 Mustang Air box, MAF, and intake tube on my car. The other day I went into my local auto parts store and bought a replacement Motorcraft filter. The new filter looks like its made from a different material and has a different part number.

Air filter included with the air box:
FA-1634
F6ZX-9601-AA

New air filter:
FA-1632
F5OZ-9601-BA

Has anyone else notised this? Any idea what the difference is?

as long as it will fit with no air leak then you will be fine.

The filter is the same size so there is no fit issue. It just seems strange that the filter material is noticeably different and has a different part #

That's just another example of Ford's sometimes messed-up replacement parts system. The FA-1634 is not available as a replacement part, it's only used in production. FA-1632 is the correct service replacement for that filter.

i bet its the same cone style filter used on my 4.6 truck, and the 5.4 trucks.

Fords motto, is make everything the same.
