This is my company van. I dont pay for the repairs but I like to know what's going on so I can tell the dealer exactly. Here's what's going on.......

For the past week or so I noticed that when the torque converter lockup happens there was a slight shutter. At first it was very sporadic so I chocked it up to bumps in the road. This morning was like any other morning feeling it ever so slightly, then it banged and started shuddering like you hit the rumble strips on the highway. Now sometimes it hits hard(like if when going into lockup, and other times it shudders. At around 58mph the shudder gets bad once lockup kicks in.

When I got the van back(they sat for 10 months while we were laid off)all the fluids were changed. The fluid looked pink and smelled about as good at Mercon V can smell. It was about 1/2 qt low, so I added more but 1/2 shouldnt make it do what it's doing. I've put about 3000 miles on it in the 1.5 months that I have been back. I'm going to call my boss tomorrow to find out what they want to do(there are a few other vans I can have if needed). What do you think?

The converter on that vehicle has a twin disc system and operates with modulation. The clutches are usually fried at 30,000 miles, by 60,000 they are gone. I have found 2 tricks on them that work. #1 convert to a single disc clutch converter or #2 reline it with good friction. The red crap the factory uses will never last. If you plan on keeping the vehicle get ahold of me I can fix it up right for under $100. The dealer will just sell you another stock converter. If it is warranty see if they will allow you to supply the converter. When done right they will last forever.

So the van is in the dealer and they said that there is a TSB out on the Freestars that a cowl leak that gets water on the PCM and TCM. They tested both, and reflashed them and they say all is well. I'm going to pick the van up monday morning but we'll see if it is 100% fixed.
