I am new to this, so here goes. I have a 97 tbird, stock suspension. I just bought cobra wheels 17x9 with 245-45-17's, The tires look to small for the rims, a 255-50-17 is the same height as the factory wheel setup(WHICH I PREFER) Here is the problem, the ones I have fit but only by a hair, they are almost touching the upper controll arm. So I don't see how I could get a larger tire in here. The wheels fit the fender and car well,(with plenty of room everyware else) other than the above mentioned. Is there a aftermarket control arm for this? Thanks in advance, Russ

The part the front tire is close to is the spindle. And no, I don't believe anybody makes an aftermarket one. A better solution for you would be to use 255/45-17 tires, which are 26" diameter and should clear the spindle, as long as the back spacing on your wheel is no more than 6.1".

Thanks for your reply. I would like to step up to a 255 50 17 is this possible? Has anyone done this combination? What tires are people running on the fronts of their birds? Do I need spacers? Thanks again, Russ

Right now I am running 245/50/17 with spacers out front. No contact problems. They are a slightly smaller overall diameter than stock. Basically, at highway cruising speed, my speedo runs 2-3 mph fast, and my trip meter is 3 miles slow per 100 miles.

255/50/17 should work as well (at least for my setup including spacers). 255's are a hair taller than the stockers, and will therefore make your speedo read slightly slower than actual speed.

FYI, I am running 17x9 Cobras with 3/16" spacers out front, Voghtland 1" group purchase springs and Tokico blues.

I bought my wheels from Custom Wheels Market. They said this is the only offset they have, and no 8" out there for Cobra R's. I believe he said these are a 38mm offset. With spacers do the front tires hang out of the wheel wells to far? They(cwm)said they have 1/8 and 1/4" spacers for my app. Thanks, Russ

I've got 255/50's on a 71/2" rim and have to use spacers because of the sidewall bulge. The bulge isn't excessive and it helps prevent curb rash. Also, my speedo reads 3-5 mph fast. I've been by those roadside " radar on a trailer" things many times, at speeds from 30 to 70 mph, and it always reads 3-5 mph fast, no matter what speed I am going.

i have the bullit style 17x9 and 255/50/17 at all corner. no spacer needed and no rubbing at front at all although the tires are very close to the spindles.
