my 95 thunderbird seems to have 17x9" cobra-R replica rims, currently it has 255/45/17's and they are rough to ride on but do alright.

i can get 235/55/17's for free where i work with 50-75% tread on them.

im alittle curious if this is alright, 1010tires says 7-8.5" rim for 235/55/17's but im still alittle curious if i could get it to fit on a 9" rim.

right now the idiot previous owner of the car put a 255/45/17 on one side of the rear, and a 275/40/17 on the other side, so i wanna get the tires changed soon, but cant afford to buy new tires at the moment.

any help would be great.

i really wish the rims were 16-17" x 7.5-8

i really dont like 9" wide rims on a stock Thunderbird.

They will likely mount up. But when you go outside the manufacturer's suggested rim width range, there is a small risk that something like a big pothole or rut in the road can knock the bead of the tire off the wheel, leading to rapid inflation. My suggestion would be to find some 255/45/17 tires.

cheers
