Folks,

I don't know how you guys feel about this but I was considering using this forum as a place to publically document all of the work I do to the T-Bird in bringing it back from a $100 car to a daily driver/Saturday Braket racer.

My plan was to have an initial post with baseline data and info and defect list with a LINK to pictures. (I figured inserting the pictures would be un-needed added bandwidth)

To that end I start with the data

1994 Ford Thunderbird LX
VIN#
Purchase Price $100
Mileage 129,150

Door Tag Data
GVW 4387
GVWF 2509
GVWR 2351
Man Date 7/94
Paint - WT (Performance White)
Body - LX2
Mldg - C
Int Trim - XR
R - H (WHat is 'R')
AX - 5 (3.27 Open)
TR = L33FF
Calibration Code - 4 18P R10

Original Condition
1. Accident damage in three areas
a. Right side behind door
b. Entire front
c. Driver's door/fender interference damage.

2. Major oil leak

3. Transmission Slip

4. Low Coolant Light

5. Low Washer Fluid Light

6. Dirty but not terribly so

7. Check Engine Light

Link to initial pictures.

Diagnosis on day one.

Oil leak is clearly in the oil filter area. I plan to get a new adapter and gasket.

Low washer and low coolant lights were valid and solved by topping off fluids

Check Engine Light was diagnosed with NO KOEO coodes, NO KOER codes and two Memory codes

P0174 - Bank #2 lean and
P0402 - Excessive EGR flow.

Body Parts in the correct color are being sought.

I highly recommend an oil filter relocation kit. The only way to get the factory oil filter out is to turn the open end down so that all the oil dumps out onto your face as you are struggling to wedge it out. Imagine being able to reach up under the fender well and just unscrew the filter without even needing to jack the car up. :)

Some days you get the bear
Some days it gets you

Today I got his a$$ but good.

I can scratch that Oil Adapter and gasket from my list because this "massive" oil leak that finally prompted the previous owner to sell was just a

(drum roll please)

Loose Oil filter!

Final progress tally for today

The fascia is off.
Both fenders are off.
I found the source of the broken vacuum line.
The charcoal canister was broken in the accident.
Codes cleared and have not come back yet.
Interior and exterior cleaned and vacuumed (found a quarter!) Now it is a $99.75 car
Changed oil and filter (K&N filter)
Used 2 cans of Gunk and then hosed the hell out of the K-frame, Oil Pan, and undercarriage.

I also was a bit distressed to find that the front bumper bar is WELDED on.

New discoveries
RF Spring in broken.
Shifter button pops out
Brakes are worn. (While I have it apart I will do front brakes.)
I need to research rotors and I read about dual piston calipers?

So my parts list needed so far is

Already Located
Left Fender - Found
Right Fender - Found
Fascia - Found
Headlight Mounting Panel - Found
Right Headlight - Found
Left Headlight - Found
Right Corner Light - Found
Left Corner Light - Found
Left Door - Found

Need to buy
Right fender to core support bracket.
Charcoal Canister
Vacuum Hose

Need to decide
Bumper Bar (May straighten it)
Energy Absorber (May omit it)
Brake Pads
Rotors
Calipers?

Sounds good. Would you mind keeping a running tally on the price of parts?

Wow! Thanks for the kind words! :D I left positive feedback for you (look at the little number under your username). Our single regret is that we didn't have more time to hang out with you! It was an absolute pleasure, and I'd *highly* recommend doing business with you. Keep me posted..........I'd love to watch the progress of this car! Great to meet you!

Minor Update
I have ordered
a pair of slotted/drilled rotors $89 shipped
a Ford Service Manual CD $5 (Wonder about that one)

I also dorve up to NY with my Brother-in-Law (Thanks Brian!) and met Chris (Pnyklr) in Mt. Vernon. I got the two doors he had for $60. It was a pleasure to meet him and I very much appreciate his help. Getting in and out of NYC was a breeze.

Today I will take a set of current condition pics and then start work. I still need to get door hinges though.

Just out of curiosity does everything include the headlights, corners, 96~97 header panel & hood needed to do it right?

Oh SNAP! Saw that as a sales pitch (although a very polite one) right off.

I have pictures and will post tonight. I need to figure out how to get the door panel off then I will pull the wiring. I plan to get the headlight panel and headlights on today as well as the right fender.

Today did not go very well. I did get the door off but I do not have hinges yet. The new rotors arrived about 30 minutes ago and they are not even opened yet.

No work on the headlight panel or fender yet. Raked leaves instead. Beautiful day today.

That your eyes bleed influences me not in the slightest.

Have a good day!
