Hello Everyone and Happy Friday!
I have a 1997 Ford Thunderbird LX that I bought last summer and have been storing in my garage for now. It’s in very good condition and I am wanting to touch up some rock chips in my paint. The problem is I’m missing the door sticker unfortunately that provides a lot of information about the car. Is there any other simple way to tell what the exact color of the car is? The paint itself is like a pearl white that has a really nice sparkle to it. If anyone can help me identify the correct color paint code for the car and any recommendations on where to get the touch up paint is greatly appreciated!!!

I'm pretty sure there were 2 white paint colors for 97, Performance White and Performance White Pearl.

I would get both whites, then paint the straight white first, finishing with the pearl (actual name is opalescent, IIRC).

I had a 95 that was the opalescent, and I could never get a good look with just the pearl, it was too dark. This is considered a tri-coat color. Supposedly, they paint white first, then the pearl, then the clear. The pearl needs a base.

The pearl may be getting hard to come by. I couldn't find it many years ago, but I may not have searched as hard as I could have because of the poor results I was getting anyway with just the pearl. I never got to try the white/pearl 2 -step idea.

BTW, these paint touch-up bottles go bad really quickly after being opened. If you manage to find the pearl, might want to pick up a couple.

I can confidently say that it’s WR code pearl white, it’s on the door jam sticker not the core support tag, definitely not performance white. They don’t make that color in the touch up bottles, I’ve looked for it for years

Maybe that's why I couldn't find it, lol! The last time I bought it was when you still bought most everything from brick and mortar stores.

Growing up we had a paint supplier in town that could mix up anything, they've probably gone the way of these brick and mortar places Al speaks of, but maybe there's a paint shop that can mix a match for you.

I bought the small touch up paint option from them. It worked out well for small chips on the bumper and such. It is a very close match so I am very happy with it. I bought it about 8 years ago so it has since dried out, but I dont really drive my Cougar much anymore so haven't needed it.

Since it is a two part paint the hardest part of applying it is not putting down too much of the base coat. If I recall the top pearl coat is much thinner.


Also I forgot to add that I bought a spray can of red paint from them for the thunderbird I use to own. It was a metalic red (laser red maybe? don't recall) it also was a very close match. Both times I purchased from them I was impressed and will definitely use them again.

It looks like Performance White Tri-Coat Pearl Metallic. But without seeing it in person, I'm just guessing. I've had good luck with Dr, Colorchip. It works well and is easy to use. Check it out.

I had got a bottle of touch-up paint for my 94 Bird (Light Evergreen Frost) and it didn't last long after it was opened! It cost $13 at the local parts store. They had to order it.

Pretty nice with the clear corners. This would probably be one of the few times I'd like to see full window tint

Light evergreen frost frost reminds me of when they made us swish fluoride in elementary school, it was that exact shade, I retch if I look at it too long.
