I have a 1999 Cougar with the V6 engine. I have 78000 miles and for the past couple of weeks the lights on my dash have been flickering on and off. The lights go dim, stay that way for a while and then brighten up again. I also noticed that the battery light is coming on also and flickering. Last night I noticed that the battery light comes on at near 75mph and also comes on when I wind the gears out. My mechanic said it was not the alternator. Has anyone had this problem? Could this problem be the Voltage regulator? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

check your grounds

I would make sure your battery terminals aren't corroded and like fubar said, make sure all your grounds are hooked up and corrosion free
