ok a friend of mine has a 2000 Chry Concorde and is having a small heating problem.
it takes a while for the heat to start coming out of the vents which is not really a big deal but...whenever he pulls up to a red light the heat stops coming out. It is still blowing out air at the normal speed but it just changes from warm to cold. when the light turns green and he takes off it turns warm again. any ideas about what could be causing that to happen????

Have you or him checked some of the basic things like;

1. How fresh is the coolant?
2. Is there the correct amount of coolant in the system?
3. Is the system losing coolant?
4. Is the thermostat operating correctly?

if it has the 2.7 tell him to get rid of it quick, that is the worst v6 to have in the concord/intrepid cars, my nephew got a 2001 intrepid with less 29000 miles on it and the thing lunched the 2.7 pos within 2 years with less than 80,000 miles on the clock. just google dodge 2.7 and it should come up with about a thousand results about people having to replace the 2.7 with sometimes less than 50,000 miles on it and chrysler blaming it on the owners and refusing to warranty the engines. just an aside, although it really has nothing to do with the heater issue, lol...:)

well, maybe it does, it could be low on coolant from the design flaw the engine has allowing the water to drip into the oilpan causing the sludge buildup that kills those engines. you never know,

Not even close.

I am a mechanic at a Dodge dealership. Yes the 2.7 is junk in the LH body cars. The reason they have sludging issues is due to excessive underhood temps. In the intrepids, concorde, 300M, and LHS the cat. converters are practically right next to the cylinder heads. Couple that with minimal airflow across the motor due to how tight everything is packaged underhood and you have a problem. If you look at the cowl area you will see where part of the weather stripping is missing. The engineers did this to help vent underhood temps. When they put the 2.7 in the JR bodies(stratus, Sebring) they made sure to design it so there would be sufficiant airflow across the motor.

I have replaced dozens of 2.7 motors in LH's but can count on one hand the amount of JR 2.7's I've replaced, and most of the JR ones were due to lack of oil changes. So while the 2.7 has its problems please don't think it is solely the motors fault when the chassis its in has something to do with it as well.

well i'm just going by what is floating around on the web, i'm not spouting it as gospel, that's why i said maybe, but there is a problem with the 2.7 in the lh cars, right?

Sorry if it sounded like I was calling you a lier. That was not my intent. And yes there is a problem with them in LH cars. My suggestion has been to use a full synthetic oil and change it every 3,000 miles. Its expensive but I know of two people doing it. One has over 100,000 miles and the other is a tech I work with. I think he has around 40,000 on it and hasn't had a problem yet.

The 300M and the LHS never came with the 2.7 and their engines don't have the problems the 2.7 has. Even if excessive heat was to blame it would be because the coolant passages in the 2.7 are way too small. Otherwise the 3.5's would be having the same problems right?

I'm with Rolling Thunder, I say check your thermostat.

i love the 300m, limited? i guess, bone color exterior, tan leather interior, sunroof, 18" chrome, autostick, 255 hp 3.5. 11, or was it 13 speaker infinity audio system, with cd changer, need i say more?

the real problem is that its a crapsler product. they are the biggest pos in the entire universe. tell him to drive it off a cliff, or burn it, or pay the driver of bigfoot to run it over or........you get the point.

Not all Chryslers are crap. We replaced less on out 3.3 Intrepid while we owned it than I have on the Cougar since I've owned it, that make my Cougar the biggest pos in the universe? They are nowhere near claiming the title of "biggest pos in the entire universe". That title is reserved for something like a Chevette. Cougarnut hit it right on the head about the 2.7.

And the 300M = one of the few FWD cars I'd consider owning.

Chrysler corp. have the some of the hottest cars and trucks on the market ( charger/ 300 and dodge ram 1500). gotta love those hemi's.

fire is still hot homeboy, im no chevy/dodge/whatever fan, but you have to give credit where it is due, the charger (srt-8 i think) is a monster of a car and the srt4 is no slouch either. my bro Bob has an srt4 that is easily in th 11~12 sec quarter range and hes only but around 7~8k in it. and as far as looks go, all of fords new crap looks just like that, crap. i have bled ford blue since day one, every male on my fathers side for the past 3 genereations have been working on/with ford and i will always have a soft spot for em, but im not gonna hate on a company because they make a car that i find appealing. isnt that the goal of automakers? to make something appealing, affordable to the target market for that specific car, and make it last (despite a lot of automakers abilities to do so).

well im done venting a little bit, sorry bout the flaiming

Gee, did someone in a Charger out run you in a street race or something?!?

Or is it a problem that the Dodge brothers quit working for Henry to go build a real car? :)

The srt line is sweet. (especially the cherokee) besides that, the only dodge I would own would be a six speed diesel. Ive pretty much lost hope on ford doing anything to grab my attention unless they bring the FPV line over. The only thing I like from Chevy is the diesels, the new Tahoe, and the Cobolt SS.

Why cant they make cars like they did 10 years ago?
