I have a 96 cougar xr7 that I’m trying to install a transmission from 2000 crown Vic. Wiring harness don’t match. 2000 has a circuit board in pan. What can I do to make it work as I’m limited on funding and experience. But I need my car.

I swapped the circuit board out on my trans and returned it to the older style of wiring.
Had to drop the valve body to swap out the connector.
This website is a wealth of information on the 4r70w, if you do a search i'm sure you can find what you are looking for.

Yes, assuming your 96 is a 4.6. Do a little more reading... :)

If you rush into this without the proper experience or knowledge beforehand, it will not go well. Do the research ahead of time and you most certainly will thank yourself after-the-fact. There are a lot of what-ifs you need to be prepared for.

Thanks Brandon;I looked and didn't find that one. The hardest part is to use the wire colors to figure out which side of the connector you're looking at. There is a short section of harness you can disconnect, and take inside to work on. Get the old pinout to match the new one, and you're set. If you screw it up, you will only get second gear. :)

There is a detailed article now that completely details the process.

So if I drop the circuit board and attach connectors for wiring harness and apply it would that be sufficient or do I need a felon?

The ONLY time you need the old, wired stuff is if you have a 94 or 95 EEC. Using the old LOW impedance stuff will kill a later EEC, IIRC. I have 96's, so that stuck in my head. I've looked at so many JY transmissions, lol.
