So my tranny will be here the 1st.

so Im looking for parts to buy:

What I know I need:

Torque converter
flex plate
tranny cooler (going for the B&M plate style)

but I also know I need some odds and end parts for the newer trannt to go in. Also need some parts for the J-Mod.

can you guys full in my gaps for me?

thanks guys!

MG

Also: How would I contact Dan to get ahold of a Torque converter and flex plate?

the 23tooth Speedo gear can be purchased at any JEEP dealer, thats right, its a JEEP part that steeda sells for twice the cash...... J3167393 is the part number, cost me 9$. I've got one in my car with 3.73's and a 8tooth output shaft and it only reads about 2mph high at 60mph. 62mph on the speedo = 60mph actual

but i was told that I had to tear into the tranny to replace the gear... is that true... or is this 23 tooth hear a way around that?

Also: How would I convert the instructions on how to do the J-Mod over to a 2001 tranny? I see that they only cover up to like 97??

There are two gears one internal to the tranny and one that it drives clipped on to the vehicle speed sensor which you will be swapping from your current trans to your new one. Dan can be reached at Joe Cooper Ford either look on the front page or the business card in JL's post in this thread.

sweet,

sounds great... so I swap out the external gear then. Works for me and its a jeep part. Got it.

And I will get ahold of Dan for my torque converter and flex plate.

anymore people? I know I need like thirty bucks worth of stuff for the J-Mod. But I dont know if I should just get everything on the "how to" part. Cuz I dont think that the 2001 tranny im getting is going to be "ALL" the same is it?

anyway, thanks a lot guys... without this forum I'd be sunk!

MG:)

Also: is a flex plate also called a the flywheel on a automatic?

yes flexplate is the same as automatic flywheel.

For your 01 tranny, just drill the plate. The only parts you will need are new valve body gaskets. The rest of the parts can come off your old transmission.

or do I have to do a couple things different?

refer to my post above. Just drill the seperator plate. You do not need to upgrade springs or servos because they are already installed. You will need new valve body gaskets, and a set of precision drill bits though.

OK!

I've done my homework, and I am now down to a last couple of questions.

#1: as said earlier, a 23 tooth speedo gear can be used to get a near range on my seedometer. This seems the best way for me since its cheap and I really dont care if my seedometer is off by a couple MPH.

SO! I found out that the saleen mustangs use a 23 tooth speedo gear, can I buy one of those and swap it into my 2001 gt tranny to use? Looks like this:

It is the white one on the end.

#2: also, I was looking at the directions for the j-mod and have it all understood on what I have to do and parts needed.... BUT! as far as the holes and hole sizing for my 2001 tranny goes, Im a bit confused? I only see specs for up to a 97 tranny. Should I use the 97 tranny hole sizes?

#3: and while we are at the j-mod question... How do I get the right NUMBER of holes on the seporater plate? Is there a template or printout I can use to get the holes right? (cuz lets face it, there are a lot of them..) or do I have to use the picture of the circled holes in atrain directions?

#4 on the j-mod directions... the "SLOT#1" ... would I open this hole to a slot on the 2001 tranny? I read the notes and as far as there notes say it looks like My 2001 tranny will have a Mechanical diode that will enable me to make the "Slot" mod instead of just increasing the size of the hole to 0.125''...... and if I do increase this to a slot... what size of slot do I increase it to? (dimensions)

thanks guys!

well i finaly have the tranny in now and my speed is off about 9-10mph on the freeway....

whats the final vertict on what u guys recomend on what to do to fix the speedo problems
What gears do you have in your car?
With the 8-tooth speedo drive gear,If you've got 3.27's then you have to use the 21 tooth purple driven gear for them.If you have 3.55's then you can use the 23 tooth steeda/jeep driven gear.
But if you have anything steeper than 3.55-you have to get a Speedcal-period.

#1-Your EEC cares if you're speedo if off.See post above about the gear ratios.

#2-Same size holes.

#3-Get a sharpie, and bring the plate in to mark it up before drilling.

#4-Yes,a slot for that trans-and use the sep plate gasket as a guide to size.

ok:

#1: how do I figure out my punkins ratio?

#2: "Get a sharpie, and bring the plate in to mark it up before drilling" What?! Bring my plate where? I just want to know how to know what holes on the plate Correspond to the hole numbers on the drill sheet...

thanks

on the drivers side door jamb, look under the "AX" and tell me what you find

In the trans tech articles there's a picture of a separator plate with all of the holes marked, this is what JL meant. bring Your plate inside and mark it like the one in the picture.

Y= 3.08 Open Rear end

I'd use the 300-450 setting, it's firmer than "mild or gear change"

so dan!

if I have a 3.08 "open" (what does that mean?) rear end.

what speedo gear should I use?

also, you think I should use the 300-450 seeting on the valve body? is this going to bog or trouble my engine with that kind of setting?!

thanks AGAIN guys,

MG:D
