Hate to tell you this, but...

First, that's not a 2003 Mustang GT unit. If that's what you were told, someone is lying. It would fit a 2003 GT, but it didn't originally come in a 2003 GT. By about 2000 or 2001, Ford went to a different design on the traction lok case. The one in the picture can only be mid to late 90's production. The dead giveaway on that part is the ABS tone ring. The only 28 spline 8.8 traction loks using that were Rangers and Aerostars.
Also, though it will bolt into the MN12 IRS pumpkin, it won't hold the halfshafts in. It doesn't have the extra groove in the side gears for that.

So pretty much what your saying is that I got screwed... HE clearly states in the auction that it came out of a 2003 Mustang... Any suggestions

What hold the half shafts in that the side gears need an extra groove? I always thought it was the other way around! I thought you could ust the Tbird 8.8 posi in a live axel because it did not have the groove for the C-clips.

Decy knows what he's talking about..trust him.
If you insist on installing this diff in your IRS pumpkin..stay off of the roads near me-I don't want it failing and causing an accident.

I agree it's not a direct bolt in, but all you have to do is change the side gears in the diff with the ones out of your rear, and they have the groove in them, and bam..... No problem. It's just a little more work, but we've done it before with no problems, and if you are going to rebuild the trac-lock anyways, It's pretty easy.

Track lock side gears and open side gears are different. But I ask again what are the grooves for? If you can pull the half shafts out with out pulling the cover what are the grooves for and where are they. I know live axels have a groove on the inside of the side gear for the C-clip to ride in and the c-clip holds the axel in but I was under the impression that the spindel held the half shaft in.
