Short time listener, First time caller...

Was looking for a post... Didn't see one.

Is anyone going on the tour?

Looking to see if any of the group will be making an appearance. Would like to meet some folks on the route if so.

Hope to hear from people...

Driller usually goes. You should come up to Carlisle, PA, 1st weekend in June.

I will see if I can get away... Wife gets back from her trip just prior. So I may have other duties... I was hoping to have the Maverick done for this year to go to Carlisle.. but that didn't happen..
I plan to go to Rockingham Speedway to check it out, but won't be part of the actual cruise.

It was pretty cool when it came thru Raleigh five years ago. Being stationed in one spot and watching cars drive by wasn't what I thought it would be. The cars sort of trickled by, definitely not a coordinated parade by any means. But the people in the cars definitely greeted anyone that was watching, even if it was just one person.

I did go to the arena to check out the festivities, dyno, etc. A LOT of cars, almost as full as for a hockey game. Also was very hot! Didn't help that they had just put a black coating on the parking lot, lol!

Be careful. Several cars were stolen in Charlotte a few years ago when the HRPT was in town.

Installed alarm, and got locking gas cap (heard gas theft 1 year was bad), looking to do a secondary ignition kill... if that does not work... insurance for the win...

I’m all about the GPS tracking. Heaven help someone if I find them with my car before the police do. The police will be the least of their worries. Streaming dash cams are also great.

The locking gas caps from back in the day didn't seal at all, gas would come gushing out if you punched it. The 1995 models had the locking gas door.

You could always run one of the coil power wires to a hidden toggle switch. Or pull the EFI fuse each night.

I’ve heard mixed things about AirTags, doesn’t the accuracy diminish greatly unless you’re within something like 30 feet of them? I think I’d splurge on a real deal gps tracker if I was concerned enough to need it. I’m more of a booby trap guy, myself, flashbangs triggered with fishing wire near the tow hooks would be a fun time 😎

Did anyone get caught in these thefts? I heard about them happening when they happened but never any followup
A buddy of mine made an anti theft tune once. It was on a switch chip where you could load multiple tunes, so for the second position, he set the rev limiter the same as the idle speed in neutral, and any load above 15% he set the ignition timing to like 20 degrees ATDC. The thing would fire up and sputter, and if you put it in gear or gave it any gas it would just fall on its face and die.

The newer may be better, the ones I use I can see the building my wife is in half way around the world. Ad long as a phone near it pings it, it is fairly accurate...

As for booby traps the liability these days when a criminal has more rights for stealing your crap if you attempt to harm them for it is horse****.. but fun none the less.

Great idea.. not sure I can pull this off by then. But worth looking into long term
Just pull the large EFI fuse overnight. Car will turn over but not start.

How easy is it to "hot wire" our cars? The article I read about a large car show, maybe Hot Rod Power Tour, the crooks brought flat beds and loaded up in the hotel parking lot.
You would hope someone would hear multiple diesel flatbeds idling in the parking lot in the middle of the night.

Pulling the fuse would trump a hotwire attempt.

I realize pulling the fuse would trump that, I was just wondering how easy it is. That probably is a good approach, since a thief would jump in a car, try to fire it up and if it doesn't start in a few seconds he's gone most likely.

The good thing about our cars not being popular is they're also not targets. In the flatbed scenario they targeted the high priced muscle that you see on Barret Jackson.

I would DEFINITELY put the money into a real deal GPS tracker or even two. How much is your car worth to you? A $20 Air tag or a $300 reliable GPS tracker? Yes, Airtags are very limited in their performance.

I think a shell of one of the cars was recovered stripped of parts. There were three that were stolen from a hotel parking lot not far from where I live and two stolen from a hotel at another location that night. They were all Chevy's as I recall.

Ultimately, the best defense against this is to set up an overnight rotating parking lot watch/patrol with other members of the car show who are there. I bet that after this happened parking lot patrol is now S.O.P. for the power tour attendees. I highly recommend it for any large gathering of amazing cars that would be potential targets.

Not really, professional thieves will load them into (probably also stolen) trailers where they can't be seen. They don't care if the car starts or not. They're just interested in the parts for resale or to put on their own rides.

I'm not willing to gamble that my car "isn't popular" and wouldn't be attractive to a thief.
There are sattelite based trackers available now that you conceal in a wire loom, and will find your car anywhere. IDK the cost, but high end rental places use them to see if people go to the track.
