OK my T-Bird project has reached the complete new exhaust stage. The engine will stay factory stock. It's a daily driver that gets taken on long trips. I want to have my cake and eat it too. I'd like it to sound like a V-8 but also want to be able to listen to the stereo while I'm doing those 8-10 hour days behind the wheel on trips.
I'm going with the manderel bent exhaust system reccomended on the forum. I'm goin to eliminate the 3rd cat, but keep the resonater. So, what pipe diameter? 2 1/4" or 2 1/2"? What about mufflers? Has anyone tried Flowmaster VT with the little valve that opens up under WOT?

Dynomax makes the VT muffler, not flowmaster. I've heard them on a couple of cars so far and have no complaints. Not something that I personally would use since I like my cars loud all the time, however if your looking for wot sound and bearable highway tones I'd imagine your the perfect demographic for it. I've been considering a set of Warlock mufflers for my bird because I would like to keep them open all the time and throw in the plugs for times that I have to come home late, go to a friends HOA neighborhood at night, visit the in-laws etc... I think those would be a good option for me. Most of my friends say they can hear my car before they see it. Or if I pull into a drive way typically they open the front door as I'm walking up because they "heard me coming".

Hasn't this thread been discussed in multitudes of other threads? AAMOF, the thread right after this is similar: http://forums.tccoa.com/showthread.php?t=138154

I'm just saying, look around and you can find some threads with different options, youtube has different installations you can hear, etc.

Nah, there's no such thing , no one ever asks about mufflers.

Doesn't cover what I'm asking about.
Now what about pipe diameters?
Has anyone had clearance problems with 2 1/2" duals?

You're not serious (sorry, but you obviously didn't look at the thread you posted this new thread in). Almost everybody here runs the 2 1/2" duals from Mandrel Systems - some with the x-internal muffler up front.

Here is some good info for you (both stickied at the top of the Exhaust thread):

As for the pipe size, someone posted the sizes for different horsepower ratings and I can't find it or remember who it was. I was wondering the same thing, what would be better for a stock engine, 2.25" or 2.5". Can anyone help out?

2.25 or 2.5, won't matter on a stocker imo. They will both work just fine. The 2.5 does allow for some better flow when you add mods. Something to keep in mind so you don't have to spend the same money twice.

Yep, that's what I was looking for. So basically, a stock to mildly modded 4.6 can go either 2.25" or 2.5". Would there be a noticable difference between the two? In other words, you're not going to feel a "loss" in power on a stocker going with 2.5"?

Doubtful. As a matter of fact, you should feel an improvement!

Thanks everyone. From the number of replys that were running 2.5" systems I think I can assume there will be no problems with clearance.
