Hi new to the forums.. I've swapped the computer in my 1997 tbird has the 4.6l v8. Since I've swapped the pcm in the car it runs an starts better. But when driving it wont shift into 4th gear. Nothing else wrong with the trans except the fact it may need a fluid an filter change. Shifts thru the first 3 gears like it should. Anyone have any idea why the trans wont shift into od because of the computer change. ?

Transmission was shifting fine before the swap?

Why did you swap it in the first place?

I swapped the pcm because the other one was retarded and had issues with the car starting. I'm thinking about taking an having it reprogrammed.

- 18 or so years ago at 30K Miles (now 189K) mine would not Shift into OD - Changed Fluid & Filter as I should have been doing at 30K Miles & it was fixed.

- Engine Management Computer probs pretty rare in these cars.

- Typically & QUITE commonly an intermittent failure to Start (spark) is failing CPS Crank Position Sensor or bad CPS Connector.

- Failure for Starter to spin is typically MLPS of course - MLPS could be no 4th Gear Prob too.

- MANY Threads on ALL the above so do some Searching & Welcome ~!
