Hey yall
So in the upcoming months I'm probably gonna be putting exhaust on my 5.0
I was given the idea a while back about putting the nascar pipes that run out the sides... on my car. Anyways, just wondering how feasable this is, and if not I'd like yall's opinion on the turndowns...I heard they sound AWESOME on 302's...

check into the typs of pipes that are used on the corvettes and such. i tihnk that with the larger diamater of pipe, they integrate some kind of glass pack into the assembly.

Yeah shortly after I posted that thread i checked further into the tbird nascar, and i didnt find any with pipes out the side. lol. can you actually do this to a thunderbird? i like being different...and everyone around here seems to have the turndowns. i wouldnt mind it, cause they do sound awesome on the 302's...but i like to stand out. so if the pipes out the side is not possible...do yall have any other recomendations?

I haven't done it yet, but on my 393, I'm going to run the exhaust out the side right in front of the rear wheel on each side, using some oval tubing so I won't have ground clearance problems. I'll be using a mid-mounted DIDO magnaflow muffler, and then from there, I'll probably do a 45 degree bend, then transition to the oval pipe, then out the side in front of the wheel. You can get the oval tubing at http://www.drgas.com/store/home.php?cat=8

I'll probably be doing that in a few weeks. I blew all my cash on other stuff on the car, then christmas, so I have to pay down a few bills, then once I have the cash I'll order up the pipes and some pre-mandrel bent tube, and I'll get it all welded up. I'll definitely post pics up once it is done.

Why must you do thing's the hard way.

I'll help you all the way on this, but being as you're car is lowered it might cause a problem.

In New Jersey The exhaust has to exit the at least 1 inch beyond any window that opens and exit from under the vehicle.

But I just cant see you taking the family on a nice relaxing road trip in that bird.

LOL

Try and talk with quick35th. He's got the NASCAR style exhaust on his 5.0L Race car.

It only exits on one side of the car and he's running open headers as well, but you can get the NASCAR style exhaust.

It being lowered is why I'm going with the oval tubing. For ovaled 3" tubing, it is only 2.25" thick, plus with it being right in front of the rear wheels, I think I'll be OK. Does your welder just plug into a normal outlet? If so, we could do it at the shop so we would actually have a lift to work on, instead of laying on a creeper.

As for dumping under the front seats, that's all well and good for your car, but I want to be able to take this car on 500+ mile drives without hating my life. It will be loud enough with the dual 3" exhaust, 1-3/4 long-tube headers, and magnaflow DIDO "muffler". Dumping it under the seats would probably vibrate enough to drive me nuts.
