Ok all you guys with too much money need to swap one of the 5 spd autos from the new mustang into a bird cougar or mark. Oh and see if it'll handle about 400 hp. I think it'd be cool to have an auto stick in a mark.

Also if any of you know anything about these transmissions I'd love to hear it I haven't seen any info on them yet. And from what I understand they've been coming in the lincoln LS's for years.

Oh yeah and if any of you knows a good shop to perform the J-mod in the dallas or surrounding area let me know.

the 5 speed autos are not for the performance minded really

2nd and 5th use the common OD band, and we all know that the and is not made for WOT shifts and high power/torque

it will probably handle 400hp easily, but not many harsh 1-2 shifts i don't think.

don't know of any TX shops, but put a post in the texas chapter forum, i'm sure one of the guys there can help ya out

Those 5R55S autos won't handle any torque at all. Just looking at the internals makes me think their will be a lot of FUBAR'ed '05 Mustang transmissions.

I guess this is why the throttle shuts closed during all upshifts.

thanks

Thanks for the info, but I still think that one of you should try it just to make sure.
:D

And what do you mean by the Texas chapter forum. Haven't found that yet.

5R55S isn't a performance transmission, it only offers about 78% of the torque capacity of a 4R70W.

Yeah.....I hear it is one more gear smashed into the same old space - smaller internals make it fit....that = less HP rating in my opinion. The 5 speed part sounds cool, but the performance doesn't seem up to par.

As for the 05 Stang.....I am NOT IMPRESSED by the either the tranny or the Suspension. If you get a chance, take a look under the rear up the 05's. FLIMSY a$$ trailing arms (maybe 3/4" wide), whimpy short torque arm, thin a$$ steal panhard brace.....the only thing that was beefy was the panhard rod itself. I was in awe of the cheapness it appered. I think there will be a HUGE - MONSTEROUS aftermarket for 05 Stang suspension related parts. Get on the wagon, you will make money!!!! That is my bet.

Correct me if I am wrong, but arn't the 4.0L v^'s using the 7.5 rear?

One other thing drivtrain related....I hear the GT's have a 2 peice drivshaft with a carrier bearing in the middle to accomidate the fuel tank.......if that is the case - performance my a$$. Poor design.

You are correct, there is a two-piece driveshaft. I'm guessing it's because the S197 platform was designed on IRS architecture in which the pinion angle doesn't change with suspension travel, whereas that's not the case with a live axle.

In general, it does look as if Ford just ran out of money when they got underneath the car, but there are some features I like and some I don't. The mounting of the front sway bar is genius compared to our cars, as is the mounting of the front A-arms.

The 2-piece driveshaft is more than strong enough, and is no weaker than the older single driveshaft-it's just smoother.
