I did the dual strut mod on mine with the spoiler. It stays upright when the wind blows but can be closed easily with one hand. Didn't move the torsion bars any.
Al, Like yours my 96 only pops open a few inches. it has the luggage rack, which may be heavier, but defiantly has more forward weight distribution. I don't want the trunk to pop all the way open because I don't want all my secrets exposed while I walk to the back. I do sympathize with it saying open though, I've has a trunk lid attack my head before, that was not a fun trip to the bone yard.My old 95 would not pop open on its own but would stay up until a strong wind hit, then it would slam shut as I cringed. It had a spoiler.
My 97 pops fully open with a touch of the button, though lately that has diminished. It has a spoiler.
IIRC, our old 96 popped open, but just two inches, we'll call that one a "tweener". I think the 97 is heading that way, I guess those things wear out.
