Will the 8.8 posi carrier from a Mustang GT fit in the IRS pumpkin of a 94 T-bird? I need a cheap posi for my drag car project and if this Mustang Unit will fit, I'll buy it. The body I started with has a peg leg diff with like 3.08 gears:thumbsd:

Eaton does make an 8.8 inch Positive Traction unit.

There are people using a solid axle 8.8 TracLoc in an IRS housing, so your answer is Yes.

The side gears are different between the solid & IRS rear ends. There is some debate as to why the IRS gets the CIRCLIP axles & solid axles don't.

Theory #1: The CIRCLIPS keep the axles from falling out of the side gears. Personally I think that the rear spindle does a pretty good job of keeping the axle from falling out.

Theory #2: The CIRCLIPS keep the axle from 'plunging' Into the side gear to far. This 'plunging' action must not be very strong, if the CIRCLIP is suppose to stop it!

Theory #3: The CIRCLIPS are only there to hold the axles in place, during assembly. This one seems the most plausible to me.
