Hello im here to ask some questions for a friend. He has a sweet 88 TC that he bought as the previous owners blew the 4 turbo and lost interest. it is pretty clean black with tan interior and LOTS of options and as you all know lots of electrics and such under the hood. Well after him toying with the idea of a 352 swap he bought a pair of convertible mustangs a 90 and an 88 both are crap but salvage he did get good titles and one has hard running 5.0 HO and tranny but the car is crap. He wants to swap the 5.0 ina nd I know it has been done and he has the whole motor and harness and allt he parts needed. Just needs a game lan on those who have done this before or know what needs to be done to make this a reality. Any one who wnats to chime in or have pics and whatnot please send them my way. Wed even talk ont he ohoen if we could get sme good questions answered and to swap advice. to those who have done this swap,.. wow let me know how it went. Got to make this old tbird fly again. thanks all

Here is a website that i came across it is more directed toward 83'-88' Cougars but they are pretty much the same thing. They have how to do the swap under the Tech section, my Dad wants to do the same thing on his 88' bird.

I have done that swap. It is a piece of cake, especially if the donor mustang is crap. The best way like I did, is I unbolted the crossmember and everything lifted the car off of it and slid it under the bird, will bolt right up. The turbocoupe already has the holes for the tranny member to line up and everything. The only hard part is wiring for the ignition and fuel pump stuff. But with a good wiring diagram like I got from the local Ford dealership. It is very easy swap to complete. Nate

Any questions, let me know. Mine was a factory auto, so the rear end already has 3.73 gears. If a manual it will have 3.55. Will make an awesome ride.

really yeah the tcoupe is awsome the mustang outward looks are desceiving. He wouldn't have bought for what he paid but it ran so good. The inner structer is shot with bad rust. Lots of good parts the non luggage rack trunk he is keeping for his 90 GT vertible. So you say to drop and yank. Humm he is pretty good with Fords especially mustangs but the ford diagram would be helpful and easy to find. Yeah it is a 3.73 car he said needs minor interior trim put back on and new emblums since there were swiped before the motor took. Either finally finish his TC or build another mustang he chose the Tbird since the parts were handy. Any experice with all the underhood goodies and wires this TC is loaded with stuff.

yeah as stated above the wires suck, i did the same thing but went from auto to standard, that was the tuff part.. everything else is just putting it together.

the rustsang is almost front clip removed and partal engine dissammbly. Hopeflully we can plaop it in. Wjat abotu allt e extra fancies the TC had as far as ride sensors and crusie and such. What gets chucked? The installing otherwise should be fine. Any words onthe CPU install?

Eveeryting should still work, it all has its own computers to run it. The CPU will mount in the same location on the stang or bird. Just mount the stang computer in there and plug it back in. You will then have to check into a few of the other small connectors loacted around it.

The cruise you will probably have to take the unit out of the fender of the stang and mount on the bird, so the cables will work.
