If you buy one from ford, it will be a one piece. Just tell Dan N that you want one....I bet he has the number memorized by now! (read:I don't know the number)

ALL 93's and early 94's had one piece shafts.

What FiveStar Told Me

Here's the reply I got from FiveStar just a few days ago on the same subject. But I didn't talk directly to Dan.... This was dated 07 Aug 02. I replied that I thought the later ones were two piece but didn't go any further since I think I can get a custom one cheaper. If you find anything different, please post it as I am very interested in a new one.

From FiveStar:

Hi Don

The drive shaft you asked about is the same from 93-98 and it is in stock ready to ship. The price is...........

PART NUMBER DESC LIST PRICE YOUR COST
F6LY-4602-A SHAFT $495.68 $371.76

plus ups

I hope this helps.

Hmmm I thought the the 93-94 were one piece and the other years were two piece. At least thats what I have read. Is $150 a reasonable prive for a 93 one-piece ds.

Thanks for the part number

Anybody have the facts????

That's what I thought on the early vs. late driveshafts also. But that was as direct quote from FiveStar. You might still want to call Dan. He may know more than what Max knows. Or they have discontinued the early ones and only the late ones are available. $150 for a good driveshaft sounds good to me, but I am no expert. Good luck

From what I have read in the past, the 93 mk.8 has the one-piece aluminum driveshaft. 94's and up were two piece. My understanding is that it was changed to save $$$. I will try and confirm this info., but I am very sure that it is correct.

Also, I have read posts where people have paid anywhere from $75 to $200 for the used drive-shaft, so shop around. You will also want to get it balanced, and replace the u-joints while you have everything apart.

Is this guy in Florida? Not sure his Name.

I was looking in to buying that one from him, but at $150 plus shipping then I was passing it up. Most ppl pay less than $75, and then to balance and get the joints put on it comes to around $120 or so. Thats what I have been told.

Hey DGRMANN I have called almost every junk yard around here and no one has a 93 driveshaft. The guy is from Florida and he told me to send him a moneyorder through the mail and left me his number. After reading all this maybe 150 is to much however since I can't find one around here I'll probably have to take it. By the way what does your user name mean is that DGR as in Dodgers. Just wondering

yeah thats the guy..SID

Sid is his name. No my name is Drew Germann so I just used that..sorry man, no dodgers. I made him an offer but you'll prob get it, if you pay the $150, plus shipping. I didn' t know he replied to my post in the classifieds. Its only $25 bux shipping I though it would be more. Hence thats why I didn't act sooner. But hey if you get it let me know how it turns out man. Later.

I got mine from dennis

I got the shaft from dennis:rolleyes:
Ok OK that doesnt sound too good!
I got my mark 8 drive shaft frome dennis
while he was installing my gears.
I got mine for 50$ installed.
I opted to go ahead and take my chances
without balancing it.
Since the rear end was out all we had to
do was slide it over the gastank without
dropping it.
It has a slight vibration around 115 but none untill then
The tranny didnt like going that fast with no cooler
so it only lasted 2 days.
Ill get it balanced when the tranny comes out.

all 93s and early 94s have a one-piece shaft. the replacement shafts are the same as the 93 shaft. Why? because if the two-piece fails, it needs a one-piece.

Just for the record the driveshaft that I had in the classifieds is a one piece aluminum shaft from a 93 Mk VIII, the transmission yoke on the MK VIII shaft was different from a 97 Thunderbird shaft that they had that was bent so I bought the bent shaft for the end, I put new NAPA part no. 270 Superstrength u - joints in it because they are anticorrosion coated & have the grease fitting in the end of the caps, I also had it checked for straightness and professionally balanced. The freight was $20.00 for U. P. S. ground, and I paid $5.00 for a special heavy duty shipping tube to ensure its safety. The following is a breakdown of what I have in this shaft: $60.00 for used MK VIII shaft, $45.99 for 2 NAPA #270 u - joints, $5.00 for T - Bird trans yoke, and $40.00 for balancing, thats a total of $150.99. I don't feel that I am too high wanting to "Get my investment back!", and these prices do not include a trip of 45 miles one way to the driveshaft shop!

Just for the record, sorry for the length of this post!

Thanks for the Info...

Thanks!! I can't believe Ford actually went backwards to something that actually works!! Does anyone have any opinions on aftermarket Alum vs. Mark VIII.? Is aftermarket better, cheaper price, etc. etc....
