as long as the morons at autozone get the model year right on your car, any shock for a bird/cougar from 89-97 will work/fit.

When you say size do you mean the length when its full retracted/ out or the overall thickness to the shock itself. I'm a bit confused to here. When i first bought my old cougar i bought some cheap shocks from autozone and they fit fine. Also if you think its to short you do relize that when you take the shock off the lower mount you have to raise that LCA back up so it can be bolted in?? I just threw that in there for the heck of it :)

it has nothing to do with stroke size that is the same, it's the size of the rod, smaller than stock, the dia. of the shock tube itself is smaller, the metal boss at the bottom is smaller, the overall width is the same w/the bushing insert, i was just going by what i have been told in the past about shocks, when upgrading to a hd type it would have the bigger is better approach, so with this mindset will the Gabriel's work as well as the oem's? that was what i was trying to find out, didn't go to ford to find out about pricing oem sure it would be high(mite be wrong) auto zone sells these for 20$ a pair, which i like the price part, but i also like the stock ride of my bird, thought maybe someone could give me some insight on how these shocks would perform? hope this clears up any confusion
