Hey guys. My cousin, who just got back from Afghanistan, has just broken a connecting rod (i see a metal rod sticking out of the oil pan so that gives me the impression..)

I've got a running 4.6 and trans in fair condition so we are gonna do the only proper redneck thing to do and slap it in the ranger/mazda whatever.

I want to use stock parts as much as possible and do this for cheap.

Drive shaft, motor mounts and instrument cluster wiring seem to be my biggest concerns. Maybe steering linkage.

The truck im working with has a 4.10 7.5" rearend so that may have to go unless i get lucky and find another drive shaft that fits for the time being until he gets some money.

I found a SWEET page here http://281ranger.homestead.com/

It should be fun. 3 inch body lift. And after it's in we'll see about better front suspension and brakes.

Check it out guys, lemme know what ya think. I know its going to be difficult i know this...

Widthwise it will be close in the engine bay, I'm thinking that the upper control arm mounting area may be an issue. Much easier with a 5.0, but where's the fun in that, right?

The tv show trucks just put a 4.6 dohc in a Mazda with a ranger front clip iirc, see what usefull info you can find from what they did.

Didn't that truck have a custom suspension setup though? Didn't see a lot of that buildup ...

cheers

Eventually they went all out with the suspension build, but "Stage 1" as they called it, was basically just drop in an engine and trans out of a Marauder and take the thing out on back roads and beat on it.
