I have read a few of the posting here related to my problem, but I just wanted to throw it out here to see if my issue is the same....

1. Shift between 1-2 fine...but will not advance to 3rd or OD
2. Yes, I have metal shavings in the tranny fluid

So I know I am probably screwed. So I need a little education in finding a reputable Tranny shop in the Seattle area..

Or possibly a certified Ford mechanic who does side work.

Any Help PLEASE!

Thanks y'all!

It's hard to diagnose over the internet and be certain. Does it just not shift or does it shift and then slip? From what you say, it sounds like it is not shifting at all. It could be mechanical, but it could also be shift solenoid 2 is not coming on.
How much stuff in the pan?
Man, I wish you lived closer to Indianapolis...

That is an easy one, the 1-2 accumulator likely had a broken spring

I agree. My 94 Mark VIII drove off the dealer's lot with a broken 1-2 spring(shame on them for not fixing it before selling it). I knew this because my forst WOT 1-2 shift, kicked the back-end out sideways when the tires broke loose.

Never the less, i found this site, and had my JMOD going shortly after. Indeed, the lower 1-2 spring was in 2 pieces, and the old piston was in there. No harm was done, and the JMOD gave me the exact same shift...but with no fear of destruction!

I would check voltage on the shift solenoids as well, but if there is metal in the fluid, regardless of solenoid results, sounds like its days are numbered.

I went with a 98 tranny that already had plenty of the "right" mods in it. had I to do it all over again? i would have done the same thing for the price...but if it wasnt available...99+ tranny all the way!

No slipping, it just will not engage 3 or up at any RPM.

As for the metal...I was just looking on the tranny dip stick and saw little shavings..so I dont know the extent...I am pretty much a tard when it comes to fixing cars..I leave that one to my brother.

But I wanted to do some research into this, If I do need to take this into a shop for repair or replacement...can you guys give me any tips or what I should be looking out for so I dont get screwed...
