The later pan/filter keeps it from going dry and neutraling in a hard turn. That's bad.

You want this upgrade, as it increases longevity. As well as a tranny cooler. :)

There's a dorman pan with a drain plug for ~$25 on amazon; I'd buy that.

Ok I didnt think i would need it since im not racing it. I just want a firmer shift.
Bear in mind that you should replace the filter when you do the j mod, and the filter is specific to each pan. You may as well get the good one and grab the pan, they're all over the place at junkyards for cheap, or you can find one online reasonably as well as grog mentioned: https://www.amazon.com/Dorman-265-813-Transmission-Drain-Plug/dp/B00NF1PT8O

That's a fraction of the money than the Mercon V will cost you. Ford didn't put these on cars because they expected customers to go racing.

Wow for some reason I was thinking the pan was over $100. No excuse not to upgrade for $25 plus 21 for filter.

Now where are the cheapest j-mod parts or does someone sell a kit?
I know i need 1-2 accum upper spring, retainer cover and piston, 2-3 accum piston and separator plate gaskets.
