96 4.6 T Bird Cop Car

I just got back from Meridian, MS where I picked up a Tan 96 4.6LX T Bird Undercover Cop Car. I won the car from WWW.GOVDEALS.COM. The car is 95% stock, but it is equipped with the flashing police lights(headlights and tail lights), there is a factory Ford sticker stating that the computer was reprogrammed at the factory, and I was told speciffically that the car had no speed limiter. The police department who used this car also has it equiped with 5% tint all around. The title shows the the city government I bought it from purchased it direct from Ford corporate on January 12, 1996.

The car is not a "Police Inteceptor" per say, but does have a great deal of upgraded wiring in the engine bay and very different positive and negative battery cables. I didn't pay attention to the exhaust when we put it on the auto transport, but I'm hoping it has the true dual exhaust.

The VIN is 1FALP62W4TH133711

The downside of the car is that because it was an undercover cop car. . .someone who had a problem with the cops broke out the driver's window, tried to tear out the trunk lock, and took the back seat off trying to get into the trunk. (Trying to steal evidence?)

I will be taking pictures as the repairs progress, but will need someone to host them for me.

I think this will be interesting to learn if there are any other differences in this car from a normal civilian version.

Will keep everyone posted.

Sorry...I though it was evident I was talking about a T Bird, but I never actually said it did I?...LOL.

The fist set of pics should be up by tomorrow P.M.

Also, the car had 2 sets of Police Band radios. The antenna leads are still in the car. The police mounted one of the radios in the VMM location with a DIN radio surround bracket, which is still in the car. There are 2 mic hangers in the car. One to the bottom right of the steering wheel and the 2nd located on the lower left hand side of the center console. The toggle switch to arm the flashing lights is just to the right of the 1st mic hanger.

Just to let you know, you can tell he isn't talking about a Vic. He said the VIN number. A police interceptor Vic will have P71, the fact that his said P62 shows it is something different. I've never seen a police T-bird, thats pretty awesome in itself. And wig-wag lights, thats cool. I always wanted some when I had my Crown (RIP)...

Well here are the pics with some explanations about each.

1. Side view front left

2. Side view broken window. The brick used to break it was still in the car.

3. Side view rear left

4. Left side poilce radio antenna lead

5. Right side police radio antenna lead

13. Secondary positive cable

14. Additional wiring

15. Air silencer was removed and this was routed down to bottom of front bumper

16. Hose from air box

17. Fuse box... missing a few things

18. Oil fill cap... looks like someone spilled battery acid on it

19. Sticker stating "reprogrammed by Ford 2-23-1998"

20. Brake booster & additional wiring

21. The leads to the first 3 injectors on the left hand side have been cut off.

22. Close up off injectors

22. Exhaust did not come from factory this way

23. More exhaust

24. More exhaust

25. More exhaust

30. Bird in bumper (dig the blue inserts. Though they lit up at first glance.)

31. Crack vials & pot pipe bowl I found in the trunk. The pink color means positive for cocaine. (the vial on the top)

32. The most interesting thing I found in my opinion. Part of a bullet proof vest. Steel plate insert.

Well as you can tell I have some work cut out for me, but the best part of all this is that this car only cost me $339.81.

did you ever think maybe someone made up a fake police car and it got impounded

my friend is a cop he said they couldnt leave the drug stuff in the car they would get in deep ****

I know here they tear the cars apart after every shift and also when the cars go to auction they are cleaned out and all emergency equipment is removed

Hey, that's my license plate number. So how much you want for the crack?

j/k

Interesting find. Best of luck fixing it up. It doesn't look too bad. Looks like the cops did a little "ram air" mod with where the silencer was.
Thanks for sharing,

Woo, she's rough. Have fun with it, it would be interesting to know the differences between the ECM calibration that car has and stock.

Looks like Dryer Vent ducting, with a little insulation spray around it.

You have some work cut out for you, but at that price, who cares, you can get a decent trunk lid at a junkyard. I have a cloth back bench same color if you want it...Its sitting in the garage right now! Clean, actually that car is almost the same as mine... LOL!

As far as someone making a "fake cop car", I have the title and the car was purchased from Ford by the Lauderdale County Mississippi Police Department and they have been the only owner. As stated above, purchase date Jan 12, 1996

The vials were underneath the spare tire and jack along with about 2 pounds of gravel, pens and paper. Not a place where someone would clean everyday.

I won the car through the govdeals auction website. I actually picked the car up at the Lauderdale County Mississippi central garage. 2 prisoners helped me and my buddy push the car onto the auto transport.

Yes it is dryer ducting. LOL

The rear seat is not damaged. It was just pulled up from the trunk supports. Thanks though.

I do need a 96/97 left rear turn light.

i was thinking the same thing because of the crack vials in it and flashers still being hooked up, but then again looking at those interior/engine bay pics i'd say that looks like typical cop car condition and workmanship. also i could see how the drug stuff could be left in it, when my friend bought an ex police caprice there was a $500 money clip under the back seat! but i would definitely think the flashers would have been removed

...anyway, it looks like a cool project:)

Its strange that the PCM wasnt reprogrammed until 98. They put a similar sticker on our Focus when they did a TSB reprogram to it for drivability issues. Good price for the car, you got a good deal. Wonder why the injector harness and maf is chopped up? Also why mess with factory exhaust on these things? It takes a nasty climate to rust one out.

i believe the reprogrammed pcm is for the tsb which change the tranny shift parameter value which fix the tranny shuddering problem. mine have the same one. and instead of 2 cats they switch to a single manaflow cat.
