My friends transmission is going out in his 05 f-150. I have a low mileage rebuilt 96 tbird transmission up for sale, just sitting around. I think it will work great in his truck with a jmod and swapping the 05 valve body into it. Does anyone see any problems with this? we would also swap the 05 harness into the 96 trans so we wouldnt have to do any wiring changes on the truck. Any tips or pointers? What year valve body gaskets do we need? Thanks in advance!

Lol he's looking for another one because it won't move in reverse until you raise rpm to 1000. Also was running rough, which I think is unrelated. It does make some noise while in park, kinda sounds like the pump. The hum or quiet whine will go away when out in d. It also threw some code and he can't tell me what it was because he cleared it using his edge tuner. What extra sensor is there In The 4r75w? Thanks for the quick response!

There is a TSS, which is required for ETC (drive by wire). The OSS signal is also completely different.

What are good direct swaps on these newer vehicles? Would I need to swap tcc solenoid or anything like that if he swapped in a 2010 4r75e?

At some point they went back to wires internally, and the connector would need to be modified (more than just repinned I think) or the internal wiring harness and connector swapped.

A 2010 also uses Mercon LV instead of Mercon V so the rest of the system like the cooler and lines would need drained well.

Yeah my dads truck with the 6r80 calls for LV. We still havent got the time to change it yet, so the case of fluid is gathering dust. I also hate how the newer fords (01 or 02 up, i think dont have the TC drain plug :() I guess I could get our hands on one and measure resistances, maybe hack/swap VB harness. 2010 was last year for 4r75e in the truck, looks like it carried on in the econoline.

Never heard of 5r100, it's probably a 4r100. His PCM is set to control a 4 speed. Don't know if you can just swap them though. 4r100 is a lot stronger I hear. Wonder if an edge custom tune could take care of that along with a different driveshaft?

01 Navigator is a 4r100, another "not even close to a drop in" swap.

I'll let my friend know there's a 4r100 available. Are you talking about just even trading transmissions?

EDIT: nevermind, theres no way hes gonna go through with that headache unless he gets a parts truck. Thanks for the offer though. I think the best thing for my friend to do is get his rebuilt and upgraded, or swapped to the newest 4r75e possible that will work.

open his 05 case and put in a new reverse band. you have to pull the tranny either way and putting a 96 tranny in would be a step in the wrong direction

He got a full rebuild for $1900. Something broke 170 miles in, they pulled and fixed it under warranty.

I'm digging this dirty dog converter I have in my bird for sure! Actually the place he used is called sturdivant transmissions in Waco. Apparently the old owner was a nascar driver or something and his wife murdered him. Pretty crazy story! I think it's still run by family, not sure. Trans has been good so far for him though.
