Generally its the rotor that keeps the caliper in place. The guide pins give the caliper support and a means to move back and forth. Post some pics of what you are concerned about.
If that's the case then that makes sense. I am away from my car right now as it is up in the air. I'm doing a full front end rebuild and some rear end stuff too. I just noticed the caliper brakcets seems to slide along the guide pins, I thought they would hold it in place. But if they are meant to slide then no worries.
Think it through in total. The rotor sits on the hub. Then you bolt the caliper bracket to the spindle. Then the caliper goes over the rotor and the pins are greased and in the caliper bracket. When its all together assuming everything is torqued correctly then nothing will come apart.
