Ok, upon investigation I noticed that the previous owner of the car had repairs done using Salvage parts. I noticed this because the hood has the famous yellow marker numbers on the underside, and because it has the hood light wire hanging from it. Knowing the 97's didn't come with the light I figured they must have used a 96 hood.

Now, since someone was kind enough to bless me with the wiring:)D) does anyone know how I could get power and a switch to get this thing to light up when the hood is raised?

I know the old lights had a mercury switch built into the bulb socket. When the hood closed, it opened and when it was up it was closed. All you did was wire it directly to 12v (with a fuse) and install a new socket and bulb. :D

Just make sure that it is off when the hood is closed.

Yeah, what he said.

On my '86 and '88 Cougars, I would just rig up a universal light and wire it into the parking lights. I did it that way for five years and never had a problem.
Ford's underhood lights are junk...
