well, i got my trans, its sitting out in the garage, but my dad has been reading somewhere about the noids in the 97 needing to be swapped to the 95s becuase they will fail prematurely.... i have no idea where he got it from, but now that he told me im getting a bit worried about it. everything i have read here tells me that they are exactly the same from 95 to 97... its the 98+ that have diff wireing but even they are the same noids... anyone got any thoughts?

im thinking i should be able to just get the flywheel (which i have to wait a week or so till the local salvagyard can get their Mk8 torn down and the thing out for me to buy...) for the smaller T/C and shove it in... already swapped my MLPS, and the rest of the sensors look the same, even the speedsensor seems to have the same gear on the inside.

also planning on Jmod, might as well while its out. maybe not the stage3, probably the 2 unless anyone would recommend the 3, is it beyond dailydriver hard? cuz i dont want a dragcar, just a little less grocerygetter...

Stage 2 has always worked out nice with the Tbirds I have done it to. Stage 1 just felt too soft and didnt chirp the tires like I wanted it to.

Just swap out the TCC solenoid like mentioned above, and you'll need to use the Tbird wiring harness on the transmission topside.

The 94/95 and 96/98 4R70W's are all basically the same. 99 and newer are different. The mark 8's have a different torque converter. There are some differences in the 94/95 versions that make them undesirable for upgrades. The trans from the mark 8 you have should work fine as is. The J Mod is an important thing to do. The accumulators in the earlier tranny's aren't very good and need to be replaced with the newer versions. The 99 and newer tranny's have a different type of internal wiring harness, thats why the solenoid need to be changed or the pin outs need to be changed when using one in our cars.


Go read the tech article on transmissions. Jerry explains the Jmod and the different settings pretty well. Send RobertP or Dirtydog a message. They can confirm what you need to do.

yeah, thats what i figured, and i new the TCC needs to be swapped. got to go get one from ford though, since im pretty sure thats what was wrong with my old one in the first place. sort of why i was thinking about the jmod, cuz im gonna have the pan off anyway.

ill probably just end up doing the stage2, my dads thinking about buying a kit online thats already drilled and stuff, but im trying to convince him otherwise, ive read all the tech articles on the mod and stuff, shouldnt be too hard.

shouldnt be any reason to repin either right? was my understanding that anything from 98+ is a repin, but 94-97 are the same.

great... poped the pann off that thing a few hours ago, and its a horror show... magnet is covered in clutch material, some sort of sludgy white crap in the fluid(almost like there was water in the pan) and a few larger aluminum flakes, my guess would be off the planetaries -_- man hope i can put MercV in it and have it last...

still had the white plug in it, and the fluid was pretty brown, bet its the orriginal stuff from 90k ago...

That sounds like at the very best you have a rebuildable 97 core.

dont have the time, or the cash to rebuild it. and it looks like the sludge is just in the pan from moistur after all. and those flakes of something seems like plastic, not sure what they are, looked like alluminum at first.

i guess im just gonna chance it... got to get the seperator plate out and mod it, fill it with MercV and see what happens...
