i have searched this forum for two days now... i hate to post things that have already been discused dozens of times, but im getting mixed feed back from all these threads. i sweat nascar flavored beer. i NEED aero series 59 rims on my car. thats why i own a thunderbird. they arent available in 5x4.25 but they are in 5x4.5. i dont really want to go through all the effort of a hubswap. what is the general consensus on adapters like these:

My advice. Run like hell from those.

The back spacing is critical on our cars. Adapters of any kind are going to push the wheel/tire too far out.

There is an Ebay seller that custom makes adapters out of 6061 billet if you just have to go that route. Give him your specs and he will make them. They are not much more than the ones you linked to.

oh lord, just do a hub swap, its cheap.
I too went the "nascar" route. bought Aero 15x8 rims in the 4.5" bolt pattern and did the hub swap....SURPRIZE...... the rims wouldn't clear the front calipers. I ended up buying the adapters which allowed me to bolt on the wheels but they stuck out a mile. After about 8 months I got tired of the look and put the mustang hubs back on along with some 18x9 black saleen speedstars and I've never looked back...............

ok. thanks everyone for the quick feed back. im stuck in the middle right now as to if i want to or not. nickleman60: how much do you mean by a mile? are we talking like an inch past the fenders? or more? im really not a very stubborn guy when it comes to doing stupid things that people tell not to, but i would really like to know about how seedy it would look.. :gapteeth: also, as a doofus note, wouldnt the wider stance improve handling? or would it severly piss off the suspension geometry?

Questions?

Hello

How do you run this car?
Daily driver or some strip?

If you do some strip, stay away from spacers!

As for the wider stance.
Yes, it would be more stable. How-ever to keep the same handling you will need to up the spring rates, Due to the change in geometry, wider stance.

For best clearance swap front Hubs & rotors with 99up Mustang.
Pull rear hubs & send to:http://www.geocities.com/stus_cobra/irs_machining.html
And redrill the rear rotors to fit.

You could install new rear bearings while you are add it.

Note: You must use 93 up front spindles.

Bob, on the front they probably stuck out about 2" and about 1" on the back, the car had the look of a sat. nite short track racecar. The spacers I bought were 1.25" thick plus the aero 8" rims had a 4" backspace so do the math. I'm a diehard Bill Elliott fan so that's where my inspiration came from. I also made a 4" high nascar style aluminum spoiler for the rear which I've left on it and everyone seems to love it along with me. It gives my car a look that no other t-bird has, unique to say the least.
