AED FMU delete...

I will be performing the FMU delete on my bird very soon...for guys who don’t know about the FMU delete here is a old EEC thread.

http://forums.tccoa.com/showthread.php?t=11201&highlight=allen+superchargers

Couple questions:

Where can I get the adapter plate that goes in the place where the FMU is? Hardware store fab?

Should I get a new FPR? Might as well since the old one is coming off

I will be doing this at a SCT shop then tuning after, any thing I should let the tuner know about the FMU delete, tuning wise?

I would think its fabbed up..I just got a new motor in my car along with a bunch of othe rupgrades. I plan on getting rid of the FMU as well as the little resevoir that comes with the kit. I was thinking something trunk mounted....WOuld clean up the engine compartment substantially as well as add more coolant capacity. May want to think of a better upgraded heat exchanger as well while you are at it.

I'm going with 42lb injectors which should be fine for anything my m90 will give me
I just rerouted the fuel lines back to their normal configuration and put mine (the fuel pressure regulator) back into it's stock possition.

I did replace the stock one with a nice billet aluminum Kirban adjustable unit though. :D
hey what is the diff between the aed m90 blower and the stock 94-95 tbird sc blower ,are they one in the same?

they are the same capacity (90 cubic feet per minute) but not the same configuration

Actually....I think they're the exact same blower and configuration. The only difference between the two being that the AED blowers are S-ported and that the nose drive is machined for the front mounted blower bracket. It was the pre-94 blowers that were different. :zdunno:
Well...

I agree with Mod Motor Cat.

The M90 used on the AED REV-I kits was a GEN-III M90 with an S-Port, hence
M90S.

The early '89-'93 SC and '89-'90 XR-7 did not use the GEN-III blower. The '94-'95 SC had the GEN-III blower.

I've looked at the GEN-III M90S and the one used on a '90 SC and they are very different.

The new REV-II kits from ALLEN SUPERCHARGERS use the GEN-V M90.

OxmanWI,

I hope all your questions were answered, but if you have any more for me, feel free to ask.

Have a nice Holiday everyone,

Nope non from me, I made this thread before you emailed me, thanks for everyones help. Happy holidays,
Ok I Feel Dumb....so The 94-95 Blower Will Work With The Kit Or No?
No...

The snout is different (flat for front clamp, length) the pulley is different (6-rib vs 8 rib), plus you have the S-Port from the ALLEN kit. In a pinch you could custom make parts to make it work, but why?

Well I Was Jut Bein Dumb,i Have A Almost New 94-95 Blower Sitting And Was Contemplateing On Get A Aed Kit For My 96 4.6
There would be absolutely no benifit swapping out blowers..As has been said..The 94-95 and Allen are both gen III M90's with the Allen SC having a magnasun S port done to it...The Snout is also machined on the allen SC as is the pulley being different
Hey what happened to my post, did someone delete it?

Josh, from all our conversations you told me the FMU was deleted. You can't run a program designed without an FMU when you have one installed. No wonder you are having issues with the tune. The FMU will always be the control point for the fuel. Just reroute the lines like I said on the phone.
Josh,

You double bagging?

Lonnie...we figured it out. The SFPR is there...it is NOT functioning. It is just there to hold up the I/C water tank. The fmu is by-passed and only the FPR is working.

He has 6-psi of boost and tells me he is at 45 psi at WOT. I think that is actually 46 psi...then he is ok. It's possible that the 180 t-stat and 11.5:1 A/F ratio is what is hurting him.

He might also have a 50 lb lead weight attached to his right foot. That always hurts fuel economy. LOL...

Happy Holidays guys,

His complaint was that he was running too rich. I've asked him to get some data logs and a run with a/f so I could see what was going on.
Lonnie,

He is assuming he is running "too" rich. I also asked him to data log, even with something as simple as Auto Tap he can see the 02 voltages at WOT.

0.850-0.950 is about right. Anything 0.98-1.00 is really rich.

I don't know what abilities he has in terms of data logging so I'm not sure what he can get us to look at.

For the most part, a 6-psi AED REV-I T-Bird without an fmu and tuned propely will make 275 RWHP/330 RWTQ (SAE) on a dynojet. He said that is exactly where he is at.

17-18 degrees of spark and 12:1 A/F ratio should do the trick. I figure he is pulling about 36-38 lb./min of air at WOT with his set-up.

He has an XCal 2.

Huh? Don’t remember that conversation, only person I talked to about the FMU delete was A-train, Mod-cat, and Grasshopper via email and PM cause I just learned about it. Sorry if I confused you.

But yes my mistake, The FMU is deleted, I was looking over the set up and realized the plenum was by passed and just there to hold up the coolant tank. I have an appointment with the SCT dealer at the end of January to install the spacer and tap the 2nd runner with the ACT. Soon after a dyno tune and A/F data log. So we'll find out what kind of power increase the spacer can produce. As of right now I'm sending both of you a copy of the last dyno tune run back in September. Check your emails. Thank you for your help and Happy holidays! :)
