Any aftermarket cooler recommendations for my 95 4.6 LX? Car has 106,000 on it with proper maintenance and shifts well but would like to install a cooler to prolong the life of the trans.

the bigger the better, any plate style cooler will do well for you. Try to avoid cheaper fin and tube designed coolers.

I went with a much smaller brand new - Ford P/N F4TH - 7A095 that I got for $25 which is the optional Trans Cooler on the old Windstars but the Ford P/N has a nice bracket well suited to under Bumper installs on Mk's & Tbirds although it was probably in front of Rad stock - It's just a $60 B&M 70273 with a bracket - Compression fittings on existing lines cut at Passenger side & Hose Barb adapters to a short run of $3 a foot dude Hi Press line - & Yes this is one of the things you can shop to death on EBAY once you know what size & thickness your desired location will handle - For more "intense applications" there were some DUDE used stainless & copper jobs on there & even some new Fan cooled jobs around $100 - A JILLION of these on Ebay at fair prices -

I bought the B&M 70268. Usually see temps peak at 180 in summer on the highway. Had to pick up a few feet of tranny oil hose and a couple nuts/bolts as well.

No real modifications required (just unbolting things and bolting them back on), however I did have to drill two holes to mount the two lower mounting brackets. I can get pics of how I did it if you like.

Here is where I hooked up the lines; the top line is the cool return line to the tranny out of the cooler, the bottom line is the hot line to the cooler (actually the cool return line out of the stock cooler). This configuration combines the cooling power of both the stock and the aftermarket coolers.



This shows the top two mounting points. For the left I unbolted the bracket for the ambient air temp. sensor for the SATC and put the bracket for the cooler under it (between the core support and the sensor bracket) using the same bolt (bolt at far left center). For the right side I sandwiched the bracket between the bracket for the header panel and the core support (bolt at extreme upper right corner).



And here are the lower mounting points. These holes I had to drill myself; if you go this route be careful to not hit and puncture the a/c condenser after you punch through.
