Found this while searching for info on Xbox to PC router configurations. Im new to the Xbox as of a couple days ago. So Im sure a lot of you will already know about this.

Those of you that dont, check it out! It runs GREAT! The cool thing is that it uses the LAN feature of a game... So games that are LAN linkable only (like Halo 1) can be played online.

www.xbconnect.com

XBConnect is software that runs on your PC and will let you play Microsoft Xbox games and Sony PSP games with players from around the world. Imagine plugging your Xbox or PSP into a LAN that went around the planet. Load up Halo, Halo 2, Rainbow Six 3 or any other compatible game and you can play with people all over the world. Thats what we do for you. You dont have to pay for expensive online gaming services anymore. Gone are the days of being stuck with career modes.

Now I just have to get better at Halo 2... ;-)

When I played I mostly used xbconnect, it works very well, they are constantly updating it and adding new features, parts of it are better than live and parts aren't, if you are just playing for fun (don't care about rank) then xbconnect is better (the people tend to be cooler too).

xbconnect just turns your computer into a little server which then connects to other little servers in a distributed computing type setup. To play any games you must have the console.

I'm a cheapass: I downloaded the free trial off Microsoft Games and run that with my $14 Wal-Mart game pad. The trial's ok even though it only allows Blood Gulch on multiplayer, but at least I can actually get multiplayer. I've been playing for two days now and those little snots online destroy me within 30 seconds.

But I swear, if I see one more dork type "NO SHEES N00BS!!" I'm gonna scream...

Exactly why I'll never be on a "free for all" type gaming network. Private groups I'm all for though.

I'm telling ya...These kids are probably no older than my little brother and they act even younger. Like, I was playing Capture the Flag (because it's easier for me if only half the people are trying to kill me) and this punk on my own team kept shooting me. I asked him why in the hell he kept killing me, and he says, "becuz i want 2." WTF?

Private groups are set up between you and your buddies, right? Is that the same as LAN?

Yeah, or as in TCCoA group or something. LAN=Local Area Network, ie, same building. It would technically be a WAN (Wide Area Network) for a TCCoA group or a group of buddies but it's the same concept.

I used to play Q3CTF with some friends on a server in FL, we once had a 2 on 5 game and still won, me and the guy who ran the server vs everyone else. ah.. those were the days.

Was, I doubt I am anymore. The #Userfriendly group games were fun when Q3 was in beta. Everyone fighting over the rocket launcher and railgun and I'd just run through and pick them off with the trusty shotgun.

I remember those days with unreal 2003... I played with driverheaven guys and could sit at the computer for hours! I still have some nice Frag shots in my picture collection.

Yup, its all about the shotgun. With xbc (xbconnect) you can set up a friends list and what not, thats how I played, I found a group of people I could stand playing with and played with them. You can set up games so only people you want in can be in, and you can always kick the people you don't like if you host.

In Halo, it's all about the Banshee flying-machine, which makes it odd that all those guys are so against using it. But I think with my trial version, it won't let me do anything but the public games. Halo PC shouldn't be that expensive anymore, should it? I know that once a new Madden game comes out, the previous year's edition drops by 50% and the 2-years hence version goes down another 25% (which is why my newest game is Madden '04 :) ). Halo 2 should have dropped 1's price down, hey?
