Does anyone know if the later model SC alternator will work on the earlier model SC? On rockauto they seem to have a better selection, they have a 130 amp Motorcraft one I was thinking about getting.

The alternators are the same internally and have the same plug; so yes they are interchangeable.

As for replacement; you will need to remove the battery completely to access the nut holding the upper air charge tube to the PS bracket ( I find it easier to remove the entire stud if possible) to remove the upper tube .. then the alternator will be able to be removed. It can be in there pretty tight so you may need to pry on the alternator to make a little slack where the insert rests against the alternator on the lower bolt.

Need pix; I'm not familiar with the 5.0 alternators.

Will the tensioner turn through its full range ( as indicated on the mount ) if you put a socket / breaker bar on the pulley ?? If so .. it can still be a little tight even with the tensioner maxed out but doable.
