Anyone know what the amperage rating of brown 18 Gauge fuse link wire is?

It's used on the wire from the voltage regulator to the battery on my 97. I hate fuse links and would like to replace it with an actual inline fuse, not only because that's what I prefer but the link is pretty ratty looking and I don't really trust it...I'm going to replace that entire circuit when I do my engine bay wiring in a few months.

I put my trusty multimeter on it and the most current I observed there was 3.2 amps, of course varying with electrical demands. Interestingly, this 3.2 amps was observed with the engine off, ignition and headlights on. I think I'll be okay with a 10 amp fuse and 14 gauge wire, but I thought I'd check anyway.

Thanks again!

I don't know that it helps you infer anything but here's one reference I had saved.

Though applies to oranges, the 130 amp 3G alt in my 94 Mustang GT uses a 20 amp fuse on the alternator's sense circuit IIRC.

I like your idea to start small with the fuse and work your way up as needed.

Not much help here but a free bump.

Good luck.
