You mean the mod where you cut and grind out the tube in the maf? No don't do it!! . All it does is lie to the computer and in the long run you will more than likely have problems. That is a very old article that should and probably will be removed from here. Others will say the same, don't mess with the maf. Go and get yourself a 2002 GT maf with a nice chip from dennis (he also sells the maf). :D

I have no idea why that tech article is still on the board. When you hack the maf, you are fooling the eec, which will cause your car to run worse than you started.

The only "maf mod" would be to buy a new ford OEM maf from another car, and get your EEC calibrated to accept the new maf.

I have a tuned eec, with the 80mm Lightning Truck maf. This gives very good results. Now guys are saying for the n/a 4.6, the best maf would be the '02 Mustang GT 80mm maf. So go with that one.

If you are supercharged, then the 90mm Lightning Truck maf would be in order, but stay away from it if you are not supercharged.

Justin you beat me...lol. I had a nice response typed up and bam (got the email notice). You said pretty much everything I was going to say.

The 02 GT maf flows just as good as the lmaf and has a smaller scale of airflow which then makes your air/fuel ratio more exact.

If you have a Pre- 96 car, then you will need the Post 96 MAF Plug, and splice that in. The tccoa maf article is wrong also. It says that only the 97 cars got the new maf plug, but the 96's also have it.

The 80mm maf, and the others use a four bolt means of attachment, which is different from the tbird maf. You will need either one of those 40 dollar pieces of metal to adapt the airbox, or rig something up, or get a mustang airbox, like I have here.

not a very good pic, but I have a 96 tbird maf plug, and a 80mm lightning maf on the 2001 gt mustang airbox.

If I use one from an 02' Stang, does it "bolt" right in, or do I need to splice the wires for the sensor?

I attached my 02 MAF by drilling new holes in the old airbox to line up with the new MAF and then covered the old holes up with duct tape. I then put some silcon on the MAF and connected the rubber boot over the other end. It took about 25 minutes. It was pretty easy.

I did the mod and did nothing for me except run ruffer (how do you spell that word), I had to buy one from junkyard and put it back on.

Justin,

What type of filter does that airbox use. I'm thinking about getting the mustang airbox to go with the 02 Mustang MAF I'm buying.

Thanks,
Joe

ok , what size injector do the lightnins have if you are going to change to the lmaf might as well get the size inj. there cal. for
I believe 42lb injectors. However, getting a chip would most likely cost less and have greater gains. Also, your engine will not be as efficient with 42lb injectors even if everything is calibrated for them (due to their short duty cycle)

19# injectors are good (in theory) up tp 300hp - not that I'd
take the chance of cutting it too close, but what hp level
are you shooting for? If it's 250hp or less, for now at least,
I'd work with what you have - unless you ran across some clean
used 24#'s for a really good price. Those 42#'s are for an SC'd
engine. "The Man" had me put in 30# with my AED setup, and so far,
they have been plenty for my engine. Maybe with a few more mods
I might consider going one step up - all depends on what the
dyno/O2 sensor readouts show....

Good luck with the mods,
