Um..... dang I didn't know that a spoiler and air dam were that great!!! :leftright

but after adding the spoilers and air dam it stayed solid thru 187 mph
I would have to see that in person to believe it. :bs:

Where is the intake for the turbines? Inches away from the rear of the seats? :beek:

And how much does a pair of T-58 turbines weigh? 400 - 500 lbs for the pair? :2huh:
That can't be good for the rear suspension. :beek:

And I did a search of MR2 T-58 turbines on Yahoo, and NOTHING came up. :beek:

That's the first thing that hit me... where's the intake for those [email protected] things?

I think it's a neat concept, but I most certainly would not have used a Toyota.

i'm thinking the intake is either via the vents just aft of the doors...but they look way to small to feed those turbines.

or

it's under the car, it would not be a great source of air due to debree, but would provide a ton of downforce

or

it's via the tranny tunnel, and air comes in through the front bumber, there's a decent sized opening beneath the liceanse plate.

what does a yahoo/google search prove? nothing...those search engines depend on what is called 'meta', stuff written in the html code that you can't see, so if nothign coems up either there is nothing like it on the internet, this car is not on the internet, or if it is, there is no meta written that specifies it.

i'm just wondering....who builds a car like that, and doesn't paint it black?

I agree, but you would think that somewhere, sometime, somebody would have posted something about a twin turbined MR2 capable of 187 mph. :D

I still call :bs: :D

But am very willing to be corrected.

Anybody know the fuel requirements (per minute) of a GE T-58 Turbine?

I did enlarge the photo and the intake looks like the red mesh at the front. So it is taking air from the "engine" compartment. :beek:

My best friend works for GE.... repairing and engineering control systems.... for gas turbine engines.... I will be sending him this link to get his opinion!!

Put that lil turbine on a bicycle. 20lbs of thrust in a tuck position would be fun.

I want!! I've always wanted to build a jet car, but no time or money.

That guy is my hero. and why not a Toyota? MR2 has a stiff chassis!

If you guys read the auction, you see he says there's a separate tonneau cover for salt flat runs that adds a big scoop from the roof ala McLaren F1. And those intakes are perfectly believable, I doubt that make much more power than the APU in an H-60 helicopter and it uses an intake of that fashion.

Here is the reply I got from my best friend (ex-Navy LT, Gas Turbine Engine Instructor for the Navy, and now an employee of GE designing, repairing, and debugging gas turbine systems. :D )(I consider him a VERY reliable source on this subject since he has 20+ years repairing/engineering gas turbines and their control systems. )

My first two concerns are the same ones you stated below. The intake is covered up with the hatch on the back...gas turbines require lots of air not only for combustion but for cooling. That being said, GTs also put out quite a bit of heat so keeping the car from melting would be quite a trick and I see nothing to protect the engine compartment and the nice paint job. Concerning the fuel....obviously the tanks in the front are not big enough to keep the engines running for any length of time let alone getting the thing up to 140mph. These tanks could be compressed air to start the engines but then where is the fuel?

Also, if you look real close at the front of the blue mounting bracket, under the bracket appear to be turbine blades. Not a good thing.

Just based on this I would agree that it's BS and could be just a prop for something. GTs have been put into trucks since the 1960's but the one thing they could not overcome was the amount of heat generated by the GT which is why you don't see GT's in cars.

Besides all that technical stuff, if this were for real and they wanted to sell it, where are the photos of it running. Heck, if I had something like this that actually worked, I would have movies and photos of it running.
And I would be on CNN/Fox/ABC/CBS/NBC/ESPN/VH1....

Anyway, for what it's worth.

Yeah, except Jesse James did it in a car that got stretched to about twice the length as that photochop
