I was originally trying to hook my bro up with a set of 16" wheels and tires on here, however the tires are Yokohama and since my parents are splitting the tire purchase with me, that means my dad has to OK their half.....which he'll never do with that combo since he's on a big non-American bash.

So...I'm looking at 15" options for him and like the 225 60 15 BFG Traction T/A's, or the ContiExtreme's or whatever their called.

The only problem is his speedometer will be off.

I understand there's a gear that can be replaced, and was wondering how to determine which one we have now, and also, if anyone had done this previously and how bad was it?

like i said before mine is like 5 mph higher than how fast i'm really going so if anybody has info i'd also really appreciate it.

Replacing the speedo gear is VERY EASY.

You go under the car on the passenger side of the transmission. There is a sensor on the tail-shaft of the transmission close to where the yoke is on the driveshaft that has the speedo gear attached to it. There are 2 bolts that hold the sensor in place. Remove the 2 bolts, remove the plug that is attached to the sensor. Remove the sensor from the transmission. There is a clip that holds the speedo gear onto the sensor. Remove the clip, remove the speedo gear, put the new speedo gear onto the sensor, re-install the clip, then re-instal the sensor onto the tranny.

Go to page 141, do the calculations found there to determine what speedo gear that you need. You should be close.

That looks very straightforward, and I've seen the link around here that has the calculator that even does the calculations for you.

Only question/problem I have is that my bro just has the original automatic that came in his 95 tbird N/A V-6...how do I found out what Drive Gear Teeth it has in it?

The pdf (and the online calculator) talk about manual transmissions, and the SC auto, but I don't think the SC auto was the same as the one my brother has...

...is it just known that what my bro has has x amount of teeth always?

Quick question...

This is where the speedo gear is right?

So how the flip do I get the one bolt out? I can't get anything on it

8mm socket on a 1/4" drive ratchet. That or use a regular 8mm box wrench

Is it that small? I thought it was a 10mm. I tried box wrench and 1/4 drive and couldn't get the socket even close to on there.

Ok so to whoever is wondering. I got a 7/16s socket on it with a 1/4 drive rachet and a small extension. Really bad angle (maybe its my 2.5 inch dual exhaust). Speedometer reads 1 mph off now so I'm happy.
