My 1997 4.6 is in need of a new harmonic balancer; Looking at Rock Auto and see they offer three different grades of Dayco units:

DAYCO PB1478N Premium $45
DAYCO PB1478ST Street Performance Balancer $116
DAYCO PB1478SS Race Performance Balancer $170

Anyone running any of these? I don't mind spending more if it is going to increase life and work better. I'm running a stock internal engine with an Allen Kit that won't be revved much past 5500rpm.

If the RPMs never go over 6K, then there's no reason for an expensive balancer. I would just go with the $45 one.

I'm not personally running one of these Dayco units, but this is their "PowerBond" line..
(PB1478ST) and (PB1478SS) are better quality than the standard parts store replacement part..
The (PB1478ST) is not SFI certified though..
I would opt for the SFI certified (PB1478SS) Race Performance Balancer..Just for piece of mind, besides it's just money.. :grin2:

I ended up going with the PB1478N; It seemed like a reasonable part and casting, and fit as I would have expected it to. It did have CHINA on the front, but I suppose most of them do these days. Time will tell how it works.
