Can anyone tell me what this part is? I found it in the transmission pan when I was doing a fluid & filter change on my sons Tbird with a AOD. Whatever it is the transmission seems to work fine without it.

Thanks, Jim

Okay, I started to laugh when I saw this post. But then I remembered the first time I did a flush, I had the same question.

It is an airplane part. Take it outside and see how far it flies. It originally was used to block the hole your tranny dipstick tube is in. When the car gets assembled and the tube is inserted it shoves that "cherry" into the pan and it will never hurt anything.

ya LOL same thing happned to me. I went to the dealer like erm, I think I hosed my trans..... where is this from, and the guy told me it was the dipstick tube plug. I'd recommend a slingshot for distance though

Thanks for the info on the plug. I can only assume that if it was still in the pan that the fluid was never changed in the cars 132,000-mile history. At least the pan was free of sediment and crud when I changed it. It pisses me off that some people can own and drive a car without giving any thought to scheduled maintence until something fails.
