Anyone ever have any experience with these? My dad wants a new daily driver and we're looking at a couple used ones - 2001 - 2003 Range Rover 4.6 HSE's...

I'm currently eyeing this for him:



It's loaded with about 33.7k miles on her. Black with charcoal interior, DVD, nav, heated seats, etc.

Heavy on the gas for a daily driver. If he don't mind cruising every where, those years are good. The 04 got the good engine. Very confortable ride but has a heavy or top heavy feel. I'm sure the GVW is up there. Don't pull out in traffic with on 01 or 02. even with a V8.

I detailed one before, its a very nice truck. But while i was driving it to my house i noticed the same things Drnaline mentioned. I was pretty surprised with how underpowered it felt. Other then that, i really liked it.

Yeah, there great if your not in a hurry. The Guy I work for just bought one from Stevie Wonder. An 05, man that thing hauls. P.S. Stevie didn't drive it. His driver did.

Hmmm, interested. I don't mind it being underpowered as much as I do care about its freeway manners. They all came with air ride controls right? You can lower/stiffen the suspension from the dashboard?

By the way, the truck may end up being for me. I need a reliable luxo-sedan/SUV and may end up with something of that nature instead of my truck. Just doesn't look right stepping out of a Lightning in a 3-piece suit or valeting one.

Not all have the air ride. Handleing is pretty good for a truck but like i say it's top heavy.

I think the adjustable suspension is on option, so you would have to check which ones had it. But they are 'posed to have off road options like the newer 4Runner. I'd take a used G wagon if I was pops instead, like you said you were peepin'.

Unless you take it out, all Range Rovers come with air suspension, it is not an option.
After about 6 or 7 years the rubber for the air bags and lines start to go bad.
Then you have the option of replacing the stuff or just taking it out all together.
The 03 has more power than the 01, but they are both very nice trucks.
Any questions you have let me know, I am a parts manager at a Land Rover dealer, so I can get you an answer one way or the other.

PS besure you have a dealer that knows how to service them...they have a pretty poor track record in the reliability area

take a look at what parts cost, and you won't want one.

My uncle had one in his shop over the summer, it needed an alternator, i forget what it cost but it was some crazy amount.

They cost about a grand, pending on where you get it from.
If you do get one, make sure you get the service history for it.
They do cost alot to maintain, but they will run forever if you take care of it.

I've decided no SUV, unless I end up near Chicago or Detroit. Even if so, I'll end up with an X5 4.6is I think. No MB SUVs because I think they're fugly (my dad has one :().

If I end up anywhere where snow isn't a big issue, I'll probably go for a sedan. I'm eyeing a Mercedes C32 (349 hp - 3.2l SC) or something of that nature. I wish they made the E46 M3's in a 4-door :(

Decisions decisions :)

All I know is, I want decent power and something classy, as my hero Ron Burgundy would put it. :D
