From what I have seen, if your car was not on the lot with the option installed it was not wired into the harnesses. You would think that it would be more cost effective for Ford to pre-wire every car with the same wiring harnesses and connectors, and then options with relays and sensors could be added on the fly. But that is not how it is. My car has just a few extra connectors like passenger electric seats. Some stuff like the extra interior lighting on the 96' swaps into a 97 with a simple splice. If you grab the whole wiring harness and relays at the yard it would be possible, but to swap it all out would be your worst nightmare. In your case open the glove box and see if the connector is there. I will bet it is not.

it must be that little louvered area on the pass side dash thanks, wonder if the sensor is in there?
thats not where the sun sensor is, i think that sensor is on the top of the dash by the defrost panel. the louvered area is where the interior temp. sensor goes for SATC;)

whent out to the car and looked on the dash and did not see anything but the small louvered area above the glove box. i know this is probably a stupid question but by the stereo where it has the stereo emblem it has a small louvered spot , i noticed on the junkyard car there was a white hose connected to that what the hell is that.

It's another magical sensor that has nothing to do with Auto Lamps. Given it's location and where the hose goes you'd never guess what it really does.

went back to the junkyard and noticed that the hose must be for the auto climate controll,on the donor car i noticed two sensors.looks to me like the little round clear one is for the headlights, near the louvered one.on the back of the healight adj knob the one with the auto headlamps has two extra wires,i thought no problem if i pull the sensor out of the dash panel i bet i will se the same color wires. no dice the wires were a different color i tried to trace them back to see if they went back to the switch and gave up.man it seemed so easy.

the loevered one next to the stereo is for the auto climate as it has a temp sensored in there. the auto headlight one is at the dash passenger side near winshield.

Yes there are two light sensors on the passenger side of the dash near the windshield. Both depend on options the car came with. One of the sensors is a round circle that you can clearly see in the dash panel if it is there. That sensor is the sunload sensor and only comes with the car if it has the semi-auto temp control. The other sensor is below the slots in the dash panel. That sensor is the ambient light sensor for the autolamps. Every car has the slots in the panel regardless of whether or not it has autolamps.

With either of these features, the wiring for the components won't be there unless the car came equipped with it. Ergo you can't just add the missing components. There were three things for autolamps: the control knob, the light sensor, and a relay. Unless you want to swap harnesses or do a hack job to your existing wiring, you can't add it.

any idea where the relay is at, i noticed on the light sensoor that you described it has the two color wires that are on the back of the switch ,but it also has three or four other wires coming from it that i cannot trace back to their start point.

Lol I have auto headlights and I never use the thing for them I just turn them on regularly :) but the sensor is that pen cap sized clear circle on the passanger side of the dashboard... and fyi anyone with a dashmat and auto headlights.... your sensor can't tell its daytime... your car thinks that it is perpetually night time
