what is the opinion on auto rx....my 4.6 blows a blue smoke after idling at a light for a little bit. i heard the vavle seals get bad in these engines. some recomended that auto rx would help a lot in this case... right now i run synthetic 10w-30....should i try the auto rx or should i just switch to a different kind of oil weight? non synthetic? what do u guys think....

I used 5W50 as well, and it really helped with the smoke from the valve seals until I got up enough nerve to replace them.

Ive seen it used in a few local cars and it seems to work. I wouldnt put 100% faith in it but it might be worth a shot, easier than replacing the valve seals.

Mager Thom was using it but never got back to me with his results. I dont know what happened to him....seems to have fallen off the board for some time now.

i used it before and let me tell you, the engine come out real clean!!!

after the auto rx youmay get more smoke because in my 94 there are no smoke what so ever, but after i run the auto rx then all the smoke come out. the oil pressure also stabilize after rx treatment and i guess the rx cleans away those gunks and hence the leak starts to come out.

I've used the Auto-rx treatment with positive results. Since my car had about 220k miles when I tried it a 14 months ago, I chose to get three bottles and follow the program they suggested.

The main results that made it worthwhile to me was that the oil consumption I observed was reduced about 50%. The first bottle does most of the cleaning from what I could tell, as the oil was very black when I drained it. The other drains with Auto RX were dark, but not as dark as the first drain.

It's a proven treatment, but you have to decide if it's worth the price, as it is a pricey product. Price/value is something that's very subjective; in my case, using the Auto RX was worth it, since I simply have very little time to dig in and take care of the valve stem seals.

Take a look around their site, as they have a discount offer if you're a member of a valid car forum website (TCCoA qualifies as one).

i think im going to try it...as long as it stops some of that blue smoke puffing away when i accelerate...ill try anything...

also is my synthetic oil making the smoke worse? should i go back to normal oil...like 5w-50 as you guys stated above?
