yea, he does trannys all the time, i have no idea what im doing but i havent asked him any questions on how to do it. He works on Fox bodys and he has 5 of them and is a mechanic. I asked if he has done trannys and he said yea ive done a bunch.
Changing your tranny fluid isn't too hard. It's not that hard or mysterious. It's just kind of messy. You have to make sure to drain the torque convertor as well as the tranny pan when you do it.
The transmission takes 12 quarts of fluid. Mercon V is the stuff to use, don't use any other type of fluid. If you have a tranny cooler you'll need a quart or two more of fluid depending on the cooler size.
When refilling it you need a nice long funnel to out into the trans dipstick tube. Start by filling 4 or 5 quarts into the car. Check for leaks, then start the car. Then slowly add 4 or 5 more. After that cycle the transmission thru the gears slowly (don't drive it yet). Then check the fluid level. Add more if it needs it. Take it for an easy drive thru your neighborhood(no racing) to cycle the fluid thru the tranny. Then Check the fluid again, add more if needed.
I was wondering who uses overdrive (O/D) when driving around town (speeds under 55). I am always flipping the O/D button depending where I am driving. Does it cause wear to the trans. if the O/D is disabled for extended times. At constant highway speeds I always enable the O/D.
When accelerating then letting off the accelerate Im getting a slight clunking from the rear of my car, it's mostly when the car is cold, sounds like something is knocking back and forth in the trunk area, haven't got a chance to get her on a lift yet. Not sure if this is a problem people run...
Hi there folks... :smile2:
I finally finished bolting the M5R2 to the 4.6 on my 94 TBird... :xpcool:
Yes (!!!) ... I knew all along that it wouldn't be as easy as the other manual options out there, but I love challenges and it can definitely be done if you are bent on the idea like I was...
Continuing with my tranny saga, I got the original J-Mod valve body back in, car shifts fine when cold, but once it warms up, 1 to 2 is sluggish. I could not figure this out so I took the Cougar into a reputable tranny house and had them look it over, run diags, etc. They could not...
