I know of the J-mod, and have considered doing it. But the other day I got bored at work and found the follow shift kits for my car:

B&M Shift improver kit (our part #40266) $66.88
and
B&M Shift plus shift improver (pt #70381) $41.88

I am sure that the J-mod is better, but are these worth the expense. I looked at the second, ordered it, just to see what it looked like (I do this alot on just random parts for fun). It came in, I was off, they sent it back. I will get another one here on Thursday.
BTW: I work at Advance Auto here in Lexington. And I do get a 20% discount.

have you read the frickin tech articles? dont get the frickin b&m.

I have the electronic shift plus on my car. Most guys recommend against it claiming that it will damage the tranny. I'm sure in some instances it may. Mine has been on my T'bird for a year and a half with no problems or any sign there of. I chose it because it was cheap for me, and is a simple install. O.K., now you guys can give it to me!!! ;)

the shift improver just raises line pressure, which is bad on a stock tranny...very bad for it. Do the J-Mod.

Well, so far I have no signs of failure (knock on wood), And if it does "do it to me" :rolleyes:, Then the car will have to sit. The J-mod is not an option for me. Because I am disabled with three herniated disks in my back, I need to pay some one to do the job, and I just don't have much $$$$ left after I pay my bills, feed my face, and gas the Bird up. I would prefer the J-mod, and yea, it is the right way. But, I can't. :D . So, to Lightevergreenforest, the J-mod is the way to go. I guess I've been lucky with shift plus ;) .

Doesn't Big Mike use a B&M? I'm pretty sure he's happy with his.

I've heard mixed comments about the whole shift kit thing.. I've decided to shy away from that idea and go with another method.

There's no tellin some people. One more time in caveman talk. Transgo bad. J-mod good. Transgo hard. J-mod easy. J-mod cheap. Transgo expensive. Smart caveman sell transgo kit to stangbanger on corral, and install j-mod. Caveman feel smart about car and extra money under rock back at cave. -Dan U.

i bought a b&m shift kit for my 3.8 years ago but never got it in. now i saw that this was talked about it elsewhere but hopefully when i get my sc i was gonna put the shift kit in. well reading this i dont really want to anymore. if i go to a garage and say gimme a jmod r they gonna know what im talklin about? id love to do it myself but i dont want to screw it up. or should i let it go depending on the miles? let me know but dont b all pissy about it.

well guys i went the different route and installed the b&m kit in my bird. I installed it back in september. It was cake work to install. Took about maybe 2 hours to install working at a very leisurely pace. I drained the torgue converter and installed a new filter and some mercon V while i was in there. The car chirps 1st 2nd and 3rd if im on the throttle right with just my 3.08 gears out back. It shifts frim when you drive the car normaly it doesnt snap you neck. Down shifts are quite noticable. I am extremely pleased with the result. Now i cant compare it to a trans with a jmod because i have never been in a car that had one done. But I have had ABSOULTELY NO PROBLEMS with my shift kit.

thats pretty cool. i want to drain my tc and do the tranny filter but i hear du have to take them off and fill them manually or it will burn up. or does it just fill itself when u fire it up?

I This is the simple way to save you a lot of time. Buy a 99 and up mustang gt valvebody and perform the J mod on the seperator plate making sure to get the exact drill bits needed. I would also purchace all the upgrade servo pistons listed in the trany article. On the new valvebody don't use the new shift solonids because the resistance is diffrent from the 94-95 and if you do it will damage the transmission and or computer. I would not get anything from B&M other than a transmission cooler. The B&M shift improver has killed countless transmissions. around here.

the B&M shift kit is good for the AOD, which is 89-93 cars. So thunderbirdlver, go for it if you want to, they make a good kit for the AOD.

As for the 4r70w, nuh uh. If you dont trust several knowledgable tranny gurus' advice then you're asking for it.

And why not, its obvious why you should go with it. Forums are for learning. If people want to do something despite what others try to convince as being bad, I have no problem with that, its not my car Im hurting. But if the thread is all about praising a shift kit I wouldnt let touch my car then I'm going to try and inform people and prevent others from doing it too.

Well, I'm glad I asked. So both of these products are not worth it. Damn, and I was kinda liking the idea of being able to turn the shift improver off. Oh well, I guess I will have to wait til summer to do the J-mod. I am just afraid that I will screw something up. I have problems with screwing things up.
