I diagnosed a bad injector on a 3.8 in my early '95 Windstar (w/ old style upper/lower intake as on the Birds) I took it to my tech and he said the inj. took out the ECM when it failed. Don't if my tech was real short on cash this month or in fact there's no protection provided for the ECM when an inj. coil burns. Anybody?

Usually it's the EEC that goes out first and hangs the injector open... its more common in the older cars like that. You may find the injector is in fact okay once you replace the EEC. Maybe, maybe not.

I see. Hey thanks Silver, It's good to have a pro at my fingertips. It's too bad I paid for an R&R injector plus the injector itself so they could figure out the ECM was hurt. Ahhh, those parts changers.

Theoretically it's possible, but unlikley. If an injector goes real bad it can create a short circut. My Firebird had two bad injectors, however the ECM did not blow. However, I did not drive the car when this happened. It ran like dog poop.
