OK, I just bought a 96 Tbird sport w/ 207K miles, and it has a few problems.
I did a search, and I THINK that I have a bad water pump. (the dealer said so, and what I've found here somewhat confirms that) I lose maybe a few drops of coolant over night, but when the car runs, it drips steadily from below the pulleys--enough to puddle and run-off. But, (and this is a good thing) it doesn't seem to overheat. The temp gauge climbs to the half-way point fairly quickly, but doesn't go further, and it doesn't smell hot. Also, there is a grinding noise coming from the engine compartment, that I hope is the water pump, if it's bad, but I can't tell exactly where the sound is coming from.
I'm sorry if the answer seems obvious. I just don't want to start throwing money at this car. I'd like to be sure I'm on target first.
Thanks,
John
