My father left me a Schauer battery charger, at least 40 years old. It has a 6-12 volt switch, and an 0-15 analog amp meter. States on the unit, tapering charge.

I tried it on the battery in my car, and put a DVM across the battery to monitor the voltage.

When the charging current goes down to three amps., the voltage goes up to 15.1 volts. I can hear bubbling from the battery. I immediately disconnected the charger.

So I guess I have to look for another charger?

Look up "gassing freely" as pertains to lead acid batteries. :grin2:
