Ok, the only performance increase mods on the car are an 02 GT engine swap and a fordchip.

Right now the exhaust system is stock except for some droney flowmasters.

I'd like to get a better performing setup but I also know about the ridiculous smog deal here in cali.

Basically, I'm trying to figure out just how much I can get away with...

I'm thinking of deleting the third cat and putting in an H or X pipe setup with either 2 magnaflows or borla's using 2.5 inch pipes.

The shop will do whatever custom exhaust setup including mufflers for 500

I've considered using the 43000 series magnaflow cats, but 200 each for them is pretty expensive. It's epa/carb odb2 compliant and is more efficient... but apparently they don't really want anyone using them??

Or...

Just keep the whole thing stock and replace the current mufflers for 200?

Do a Magnaflow DI/DO, it has a built in X-pipe and goes in place of the third cat and resonator, then go true duals back to tips of your choice.

Yeah, I've read about people doing this with good results...

but not in California... I dont think I would stand a chance at the visual inspection with that kind of setup.

ehhhhh just depends on where you take your test. i have the di/do setup and trust me it will sound way better than 2 mufflers in the rear with the 3rd cat gone.

i had the 3rd cat removed and had two flowmasters in the rear via the y-pipe. it passed smog but ive never had to do a visual and ive done smog on my car twice now. well i also have smogged my recent 97 and it passed barely before it started acting up. it has the di/do magnaflow setup.

i payed 350 cash total for them to run two pipes to some nice tips with the midmount muffler. 500 is way too much. now only if you lived in la county ;)
